Reforming our Presidential Elections process

I thought about this for years now and wondered why there is not a massive move to reform our elections? Can anyone explain to me why this has been pretty much ignored? Should the electorial college be abolished? Should we get rid of the "winners take all concept"? Should we change how elections generate money for campaigns? Should all TV channels be forced to show political events for free or possibly another venue to keep the large amounts of cash being used now? Should the people demand that congress change the rules to allow more then 2 parties to choose from? Should we make sure all voting machines are tamper proof with an audit trail?
Above are the talking points for this article. Now I will make my views known and ideas to reform the elections as I see it.
Firstly, above all else we need to remove the large corporate domations and lobbists from the mix. The way things are now both parties are corrupt from large corporations enticing them with big cash prizes for going along with the lobbists deal. Secondly, all campaign ads should be aired with balance and without the high prices that are currently being charged by the TV networks who are basically owned by the people. Thirdly, all states should adopt the same electorial college reform that Maine and Nebraska use now. This is the fairest way to handle elections and would end this "winner take all" strategy that is now being used and taken advantage of. This would place all states on equal grounds and force each candidate to compaign in each state.
If you do not understand how the electorial college works or you are someone who feels your vote no longer counts due to one party or another id dominate in the state, then this paragraph will interest you.
The electorial college was setup initially to provide power for the smaller states to give them equal footing with representation in conqress. A number of delegates are selected in each state who use the old style of the electorial college. If the general voting in the state goes to one party or the other those delegates are required (not by law) to cast a vote for the party nominee. Each state has points given based on the representation of the states congress in the federal branch. (Maybe not described exactly right)
This entire system has worked well for many years. Today though things are quite different and most all states have equal power in congress. I do not think we should end the electorial college as it is today. I feel we still need it but must reform it by changing how the system works. Quite simply adopt the same policies that Maine and Nebraska use today. How it works in each of these states is that all districts are divided by party affiliation. The electorial vote goes by each district rather then state wide. Meaning a state could have a split between the parties forcing a runoff instead of one party or the other winning it all.
Now if you followed what I explained on how to reform the electorial college do you agree this would be the best way to reform it?
The rest of the talking points I would be interested in reading what everyone opinions are. In case some of you have not seen my replies on this wonderful website I am a proud Independent voter who is extreme fiscally conservative with a lot of left leaning views. I love to play hardball politics to get some hot heated debates going. It is all for fun of course and I am never serious with any comments except the ones concerning who to vote for. I look forward to reading your comments on this very important issue.
