Working in reverse order a bit... (from most recently watched to some older stuff). Note that the film titles are linked to my longer reviews over at Amazon.com. If you find those reviews (or any others you find there) useful, please remember to register your vote at end of the review.
Original info about Baby Mama: First up is an advance apology because I haven't yet had the chance to watch Baby Mama though I have the rental sitting here to watch when time allows. I want to see it, but then so do my wife and daughter, so I'm left waiting a bit before I get to watch that one.
Updated information about the movie Baby Mama:
Well, I'm glad I didn't spend money to go see Baby Mama in the theatres. It was ok, but as I seem to keep finding with the SNL team lately, just not consistently funny. I didn't mention in my quick Amazon.com review that the Blu-ray picture quality was definitely soft and not as sharp and detailed as I would like either. Not bad, but not great. Finally, I'd also say I was really disappointed in the lack of extras on the disc. Nothing there, just a commentary track. So, let's summarize: mediocre movie, mediocre picture quality, zero extras. Total value: rental at best.
The most recent film that we did see was the film noir styled flick Married Life. Starring Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Patricia Clarkson, and Rachel McAdams. Interesting enough, though I really think the film is a lot better with one of the alternate endings that was included on the disc. (Actually with any of the alternate endings, though each achieves a different effect and response).
One that I didn't do a review of, but which was somewhat interesting and worth a rental was the film Smart People. It was an interesting film, though I think the writer(s)/director and actors (and pretty much everyone involved) probably took that film title too seriously and thought that they were really all smart. Maybe yes, maybe no. It was ok I guess, but not something that was really that compelling. If you see it sitting on the shelf and don't have anything else lined up to watch, it's worth a rent, but don't go in with inflated expectations.
Finally we also recently watched What Happens in Vegas, with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. Formulaic silly romantic comedy, but funny enough to rate at least the 'rent it' status.
