2.0 Needs this !

More than anything the worst thing about managing your empire is not knowing where x-planet is, ie if ure cycling through planets in the planet screen and you want to build something on it you have to know where it is in order to know what to build there, and i dont want to rememer the names and relative positions of all my planets.

-There needs to be a button on the planetary inventory screen & planet surface screen that either centers the space camera on that planet OR a minimap, otherwise its like planet X somewhere amongst mabye 50 planets has finished building what do you want to build, WELL THAT DEPENDS ON WHERE IT IS more often than not.

Also displaying the size of a component in the tech tree would be extreemely usefull, waaay more usefull than info on how much it costs. I know this would mean altering a lot of files so im not 100% hopefull this will happen. And i just realised since the size scales with hull size this would also be tricky, just thought i was missing information i would like to have to make decisions here. im sure its possble to implement given a bit of thought

Also when i rush buy a research co-ordination center my entire economy screw up for one turn, on that planet all hammers fall to zero,  and i accrue NO tech points that turn! hmm

Well there we go... regards

ALEX

I think I asked for that a long time ago. I'd like to see that too. Many times i just jot the planet name on a piece of paper to get back to after I'm done with the GNN screen. OR if we could get back to that screen after hitting done so that we could chech things out before deciding what to build next. I know we still have the notifications on the right, but if the haven't been cleared in some time... well you know what thats like trying to get to the latest.

On a related note, could 2.0 be made that if there is some sort of spy action that turn we can go to that p[lanet and still get back to the GNN and not have the whole thing go away. it KILLS when that happens.

If I remember right, in TA whichever planet you have selected in the planetary management screen gets panned to when you close that screen.  There is also the ship/planet window you could utilize which can be sorted various different ways.

So if you are playing DA, this will probably be ported back in 2.0 for you.

~clicks the edit button a few times~  Ok, that doesn't work I guess.

The F2 key by default will bring up the planetary management window.

A shameless plug for Jeff Pinard's DA guide check this page of the guide for more info on that.

I think you understood the OP better than I did Loup. In DA it DOES bring you right to that planet when you close the planet list screen. I was refering to the list that pops up between turns showing you what was built that turn. It lets you go to the planet to adjust the queue and ship build but you have no way of knowing where that particualr planet is. If you close the screen to see you can't get that screen back up and will have to rely on the little icons on the screen's right side.

Perhaps I did...we'll see when he replies lol.

As for that GNN, you can't rely on the icons if you wished to intervene in a planet's improvement que once X gets done on it if something else is in the que after it.  Lets say...you wanted to quick-build a recruitment center as soon as the farm is complete, but you have some econ buildings after the recruitment building.  I guess you could pop open the management screen (different one than I have posted in my 2nd reply...not sure offhand the proper name for either) each week to see what's active in the que and fast-buy that recruitment if you see it.

Translation:  I agree a "pop back open the GNN window" button would be cool.

~clicks edit~ grrrr

As for the spy thing...couldn't you see what planets have spies on them via the espionage window?  That normally shows you spies you have placed as well as spies on opponent's worlds.  It doesn't however have the one thing that is mentioned in the GNN/side bar....spies negated.

I haven't had my sidebar get fileld up lately (I haven't played in nearly a month), isn't there some sort of scroll arrows once it's filled to go up/down the list?  Also, why now go clear out the list if you see it's full?

Yes you can check spy status in the espionage window and that what i do when i see some spy activity in the GNN. However, this is becausei HAVE to do it this way or i loss the GNN screen before i was done with it. The difference is, as you noted, spies negated. That can be big because of trying to remember where you wanted that spy. Youi may have to click a few planets before you found the one that had the spy, or even if you know the planet name, you have to pan looking for it. Inthe GNN sceen it will take you right to the planet. If the espionage screen listed the negated spies yopu could probably shoot to the planet from there. But it doesn't so we can't.

What I do now is rename AI planets so I'll know where i want my spies to be or what planets i should invade first. That is, I show myself where the AI has its capitals, especially the econo capital which is the one place i generally place spies. I guess i could do it too if i find a planet with good bonus tiles. Planet name "Attack here first". I've also been changing the names of my own planet that get certain bonuses with moral choices upon colonization.

To the OP? >>  the reason you lost your hammers and got no research that turn could be that you went below -500 bc with the purchace of the Research Coordination Center. Otherwise I've never had that happen to me.

Yeah so CaptainYar was correct in interpreting my request, i should say im using twilight by the way. Im going to check out the names of windows and get back to you when im sure i know which screen im talking about, too late now 2.00 am YAWN!

yeah so edit isnt working ey,

CaptainYar, i think your right about the -500bc limit, i had a pretty hefty economy at the time like +600c per turn so i could afford it, that explains it, cheers

I agree with you, that "center planet" feature would be nice to have as an option. But consider naming your planets with meaningful names like for instance, this is how generally how I name planets:

<Name> <Class> [Special Feature] [Geographical Hint]

Examples:

1) "Orion 24 Lab South Border" (Research focused planet very high quality near the south border)

2) "Antares 6 Neutral Zone" (because it is inside a very disputed well known area of the galaxy)

3) "Caprica 16 Mine Inner" (inside inner region of your territory, unreachable to your enemies and focused on production)

4) "Kyro 7 Outpost Drengin" (for a more precise location and function, near Drengin, with Invasion defense due to its vulnerability)

I know this "naming" could be a bit overwhelming in Huge/Immense Galaxies but it has been working for me.

But again, the center planet action option would be very nice to have in next patch/version/whatever.

Nope. If your icons stack to the top of your main map, you have to clear some to see what else is up on top.

If I payed more attention I could just clear it each turn. But I need to use it so seldomly that it gets ignored.
