Can't Play 2004

I bought the 2004 edition when it first came out on a cd. Now I can't play or update it because Impulse says I need a registration code like for the 2008 edition. I do no have this code and I do not know where or how to get it. Any Ideas?

Do you still use the email address that you regestered 2004 with? If so, you can have Impulse email your serial numbers to you.

Like I said  I just bought the cd from the store, I din't registrew the game at all.

I think you only have to enter that code if you wnat the updates. Or did Ubisoft force us to require activation...I forget.  :(  The bad news is that code is required to download from Impulse to get the latest version.

The good news is that it's dropped in price drasticially :) You may just want to pick up a new code (it's down to $4.95)

Hope this helps!!

That stupid.  I bought the first game and there was no code that came with it.  At all.  Requiring something that doesn't exist and asking people to buy it because you never supplied it in the first place is very poor sport indeed.

The code did exist.  It was how you'd activate the game for updates using Stardock Central, (the updating program Stardock used before Impulse came out).

Just contact [email protected] if you have the old box, cd, and manual, but still can't find your code.  They should be able to help you out, I would think.

So you bought the 2004 version of the game back in 2004?  You haven't registered it, so it's never been updated.  Now you can't play it?  If you could play it four years ago, you should still be able to play it now.  Just install from the cd and run it.

I don't know what you're talking about.  The game didn't not requie SDC (although I did use it for GCII) and the website said nothing about it either.  To update the game, you merely had to submit your email on the website and a link to the update was email to you minutes later.  There was no registration involved.  Maybe this was true in a later version of the boxed game, I don't know.  I do know that at no time was there ever any code that I had to enter anywhere to update to do anything else.

Mind you I no longer play that old version, but I am saying that the original poster is likely right.

Garber: Do you currently have the original CD?

CatWhoWalks: Thinking back, I remember Ubisoft forcing some un-clean updating policies on the game, and I'm not actually sure how updates were handled (was it a web-patch that players had to get). The problem is, without purchase info in our database, or even some serial number fo verify against, we can't judt let anyone download the full version from Impulse.

Ubi didn't include any serials with the game, so retail PM04 buyers had to use an openly available standalone patch (no serial meant no SDC support). I don't see it anywhere on the site here anymore, but third-party gaming sites such as FileFront do have it.

That's fine and understandable, but if that's the case, then why does it appear as one of my registered games?  I've never registered it, and I'm assuming it would balk if I tried to update it, so why put it there?

Because you purchased online, through us, and so your info is in the database.

I don't know why serial numbers weren't provided in the boxed 2004 version, but know that now that we're self publishing, we/you wont have to be subjected to weird anti-piracy schemes again :) And any boxed copy users that regester will have full downloadable access to the game.

No, I didn't.  Stop making assumptions and listen to what I'm saying.  I have never bought a single thing from you guys online ever.  Period.  That will change when I get Twilight of Arnor, but that is not true now.

PM 2004 shows up even though I've never bought it online, registered it or, downloaded it, and I'm pretty sure that's what garber is talking about as well.

Cat: Man, I have no idea why the game shows up for you (it's definatly not in your customer info). We should really wait until garber comes back, though, cause we'll just go round 'n round assuming what the issue is.

My best guess is that, due to regestry settings, if you install from the CD, it'll pick the game up in Impulse and list it there. However, due to the crappy CD Checking stuff Ubisoft made us add, when you try to run the game it errors out (either on the Impuse end or on the game side).  Again, can't be sure.

For my point, I'm getting too argumentative and harsh about it, for which I apologize.  I'm not the one having the problem, really, since I don't even play 2004 anymore.  I was trying to help by backing up Garber and verifying what he says, but I took it a bit too far.  Plus, I wanted to report a possible Impulse bug, as, if it's happening for others, they will be trying to update and having problems too.

Again, I apologize for getting a little too wrapped up in this, and you are rigt that we should wait until Garber comes back.

So Sorry! Thought the thread died. I have the CD, the box, the manual, and everything else.  And I was able to update it for awhile, but now I can't and Impusle says there is a new update. If I were to register the game now, could I get the Update?

I tried to register on the ubisoft website to get the code, but it didn't work. I guess I might just have to live without that last patch seeing as that I can't get that code.

garber: I'm sure we can find the patch for you :)  We had no idea 2004 didn't ship with serial numbers until we dusted off then busted open some old copies.

In fact, we should just make the patch available on the website somewhere (I doubt Ubisoft even remebers publishing PM2004)...I'll look into it.
