Hello, I just wanted to report that because the Multiplayer Login screen only accepts 12 character passwords I can't join.

Although I can join directly from impulse, but when I exit the game and try to join again from the Multiplayer Login screen, my nick and password appear to be entered, but it still doesn't recognizes my password longer than 12 characteres.

And thanks for the update.|-)

That's odd.  I could swear that the Impulse team told me that 12 was the password character limit.  You might be able to work around it by passing your account information as a command line parameter.

Right click on The Political Machine 2008 in Impulse and choose Open Application Folder.

Right click on PolMachine2008 and choose Send to Desktop (Create Shortcut).

Right click on the shortcut and choose Properties.

Left Click in the Target field and hit the End key so that the keyboard cursor moves to the end of the field.  Hit space.

Valid command line parameters are:

w - no switch, runs the game in a window

/username - followed by your username, in quotes if you have a space

/password - followed by your password, also in quotes if you have a space.

/multiplayer - takes you directly to the world setup screen to create a multiplayer game that will be listed on Impulse. Only works if you also have valid Impulse login specified with /username and /password.

You can also try editing the prefs.ini found in My Documents\My Games\PolMachine2008 with notepad or another text editor.  Under the section [Multiplayer] there should be the keys ImpulseLogin and ImpulsePassword.   Also, if you have a registered nick on irc.stardock.com, you can set that under SetupOptions with the key IRCNickPassword.

Hello Cari, I've used a password longer than 12 character for many months (more than a year for sure) and always worked on SC and on Impulse.

I first tried entering the full password on prefs.ini but it still didn't accept the longer password.

Then I tried the command line parameters, but they didn't work either (I think the password command didn't do anything).

I know I could just change my password to make it shorter, but I thought you should know this.

Thank you.

Hmm...I haven't been able to reproduce pheonix's VP problem. Anyone else?

I've had the same VP problem as phoenix about 1/2 the time, and every time that occurs, the game freezes and closes on my first action of the turn

I played 1.5 release version once and have the same VP problem as phoenixman. The computer doesn't seem to pick a running mate.

same here.  i've typically picked obama and run against mccain.  i pick biden no problem but poor john mcsame remains alone until the game ends.

So weird...upon further inspection I've definatly seen this bug in action. You guys enjoy the easy victories until the next update ;)

I haven't tried the patch yet, but has an option to pause between state electoral votes been added during the election results? I'm guessing not.

 :(

DrCorday: 'Fraid not :(  What in particular were you looking for?  If we did a slower version of the results, I would imagine commentator play-by-play and specific stats (who voted, and why, and perhaps some voter quotes)....much more in-depth that we could do in a patch.

But, if you have a quick(er) and easy(er) suggestion, perhaps we can get it in! :)

Would it be possible to reveal the results of the states that are the closest last?  It would soom to be more realistic if say, Nevada where one candidate was destroying another was revealed way before Ohio where it was an extremely tight, down to the wire race.  It would certainly add to the drama in a close election.

Hmm...I guess a simple solution to this would be: any states that are 2% or less apart (show up pink on the map view) would get pushed to the back of the tally list. You show off the 'sure things' then loop back around to the battleground states. May now always end up in a nail biter, but at least it wouldn't require Cali and Hawaii to the be lynch-pins.

At least, I THINK it's simple...I'd have to check out the code (the guy that wrote that part is long gone). I'll keep you posted :)

Just the option to 'press any key to continue' after each state result is shown. It would result in 49 keypresses during the results phase but that would work for me. And it would have to be optional.  |-)

That would be way cool!

if this is feasible, it would be great.

Awesome, thanks for looking in to that.  There's nothing more anti-climactic than having a close race because of a few eastern states that are pink only to have the outcome obvious by the time you hit Illinois because you know exactly how the Midwest and the West are going to turn out.  And if you could combine this idea with the slower/detailed result idea above it would add an incredible amount of drama and realism to the entire in game election.

1.50.050 should have the VP fix, and it fixes a bunch of other issues, and you can play against Express players.

So I suggest you get it :)
