Gifting freighters

Has anyone ever tried to give a freights to an AI so that it would then begin a trade route with one of your planets?  Does ity work? will the AI send the ship somewhere?  This could be a good way to exceed your max number of routes and if you give it whiles its in the heart of your territory, the risk of it going to another civ is lessened.

IF the answers are YES, then how does the game cal;culate the value of the route? WHere will it say the route stated?

Also since you benefit from the route too, you can get better relations with the gift and then get money from the route.

Guess you'd have to try to find out :) I wonder how that would work though... If you build a transport and send it from Planet A to Planet B (where planet B is from a different Civ) it will create a trade route between those two planets. If you gift a transport to another Civ while the transport is in your territory.... even if that transport will go to one of your planets, between what planets will the trade route be? Technically the transport came from your planets to start with... and you can't build a trade route between your own planets.

Anyway, I'm just new to this game and only just finished my first game so I'm not an expert on this :P

It seems simple enough to test.

Have you?

As far as I know, the gifted ship will simply be assigned to one of the AI planets, where it might be sent out to establish a trade route to another civ. It may or may not be your own.

Waste of time and resources, I would think. That same AI is sending out trade ships to you anyway. And you won't gain anything more by giving them a freighter.
