Russell Brand, for those who don't know, is an English celebrity who is a celebrity for no apparant reason. Nobody knows why he exists, or how he managed to steal the limelight, but it happened, we're sorry.

He turned up to the MTV Awards yesterday, here's what he said:

Early in his opening monologue, Brand pleaded: "Please, America, elect Barack Obama. On behalf of the world."

Partisanship, of course, can hurt sales. But Brand was refreshingly ignorant of many of the concerns that keep the lips of American pop stars zipped. For good measure — and surely stepping over the line — Brand referred to President Bush as "that retarded cowboy fellow."

Sure, a bit of fun, but why should Americans pay any attention whatsoever to what the rest of the world think about their choice as president? Since when is a jumped up little 'comedian' qualified to urge the public of America to vote either way?

Shifting to NME now, because AP didn't quote him properly, he said:

"Some people-- I think they're called 'racists' may not be ready to elect a black man, he said, adding, "It was nice of you to let that retarded cowboy have a go at it."

"New music, a new president, a brand new America. You deserve it after eight years of Bush," he said.

In typical Brand fashion, he mocked the alleged virginity of teen heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers, as well as the troubled upbringing of the Jacksons.

Because 'troubled' people are hilarious, aren't they?

Frankly, the upbringing of the Jacksons was a tragedy. Talented, healthy young people have now become... well... Michael Jackson.

You can clearly see why the next PM, David Cameron, announced we are living in a 'Broken Britain' a few weeks ago. It seems Brand isn't happy with the fact that growing proportions of Britons have no self-respect, no family-values and increasing STIs, he wants to encourage slutiness and 'cool' policies such as no legislation against infanticide, and devout Christian Americans paying for abortions and STI-related operations, under a universal-healthcare system (just as in his beloved Britain).

This comes after Madonna, who at least is American, compared John McCain to Adolf Hitler, and Barack Obama to Mohandas Gandhi. (i'm sure everybodies seen it, but below is the link)

Surely in a world where increasing numbers of people respect 'celebrities' above their own family, these 'celebrities' shouldn't be preaching messages which are wildly innacurate, libel, and ignorant?

Oh and he's not really 'famous' in Britain ;)

Respect is something you earn, and something that apparently Europe (which is not the world as much as it would like to think it is - and not even all of Europe at that) does not understand.

The enlightened literati like brand are just ignorant bumpkins that feel they deserve respect because they exist.  That is why America (for the most part) dont respect or heed the "advice" of Europeans.  Why?  I decide I am somebody, spout stupidities, and I am supposed to be respected?  For ignorant bumpkins that may work.  Unfortunately for Europe, they are in short supply (and mostly on the liberal side anyway) in America.

Quick tip: Don't take Russell Brand too seriously!

Yep, cause America has so much more respect around the world than Europe!

He was referring to Russell Brand. Yes you shouldn't take him too seriously (Brand, not Dr Guy :D) but that was just a stupid thing to do and my point is that people trust/listen to celebrities increasingly and Brand might be an idiot, might have simply been idiotic looking for headlines, but there are some idiotic voters who are going to listen to him. While it's true you shouldn't underestimate how intelligent some American voters are, you also shouldn't underestimate just how stupid others are.

I was referring to people, but it applies to nations as well. Some people crave respect. Most americans do not. They do what has to be done, and dont care what europeans think. And beleive it or not, the world does not consist of Europe. Although to hear europeans talk, you would get that impression.

You could just as easily make this phrase 'Believe it or not, the world does not consist of America.  Although to hear US Citizens talk, you would get that impression' and have it just as valid, and at the same disgusting degree.

You can get all uppity and call them Eurocentric, because they are - but don't forget that the vast majority of the US is completely US-centric as well.

One thing the US doesn't have to import--it's has a plethora of comedic assholes.>:(
