Whenever I start a new game, no matter what class I pick (I've been picking Mercenary), it sticks me as a fighter... what am I doing wrong? Anyone else had this issue?
It's not really an issue : the "class" you get ingame is just a description tag according to your actions (the % of xp you get from each type of missions) : so make trade and you'll become trader, attack ships and become pirate, etc !
Look at the ranger roster, the classes and xp split % of each ranger are indicated.
This is not a RPG with real classes having specific abilities (though your career will determine who are your allies and your enemies).
