[Nitpik] User Interface Mouse doesn't scroll map

When moving the mouse to the edge of the map, it should scroll the map.  With the majority of hotkeys bound to (or near) W,A,S, and D, having the only means to move the map being to zoom in & out with the mouse or to use the distant arrow keys feels... wrong.

It's like pushing the pull door.

Yeah, I don't know if that's a bug, but it's so counterintutive it might as well be. Way too much hand-sliding, and the mouse wheel isn't quite right to take up the slack the way it can in sins.

It is counterintuitive, which is why it's an issue.  It's a nitpik now, but a product can't go live without functionality that's been a gaming staple since 1992.

Yep, I agree wholeheartedly. It may be something they didn't implement, which would be very odd, but it doesn't seem to be there for anybody, which leads me to think it may not be a bug.

I got used to the click-drag of the mousewheel pretty quickly. Then again I have been used to using a somewhat similar setup in GC2 for a long time(Just different button) :)

Ooooooohhhhhhhh, you can click-drag? Well, that makes it fine for me, I'm equally used to GC2 (love that game!), but edge scroll would still be good.

I don't know why they slimmed down the options available in settings. SupCom hard barely enough in the first place.

I defintely need that ability put back in.  Screen should scroll when the mouse pointer is put on the edge.

Yes, even after playing through my third game of it I was still finding myself trying to edge scroll. I'm not sure if there's a good reason why it's not in but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Unless that's part of making it "not fun". ;)

Agreed, edge scrolling should be in the game.  I find myself zooming in and out constantly to adjust the camera since the camera zooms into your mouse pointer instead of the center of the screen (which is good).

The camera controls being Arrows keys and then the Hotleys being on the left side drives me bonkers, i end up forgoing hotkeys all together.

Another thing is you can;t see shop items at the top of the page when you have an enemy targetted as his icon blocks your menu-just another nitpick

Edge scrolling has been in different versions and we might ship with it, I'm not entirely sure. I know it was something I had to keep disabling for a while because it made actually editing the game difficult. Cant really mouse over to another editor window without the game window scrolling off into oblivion with edge scrolling on.

How difficult would it be to put an option to toggle it on and off in the game options? It would have to be on by default or else everyone coming from any RTS game ever would have problems.

While you're here, can you comment on why there is no minimap? Is it NYI? A minimap is practically essential. I know you can just zoom out to get a view of the whole battlefield, but then you have to zoom back in, and in the meantime you could be taking damage.

There probably isn't a minimap because there is strategic zoom.  I haven't found the lack of minimap lacking at ALL.  I like the extra screen space.

And moving to the edges should tilt/rotate, wasd pan, like WiC.  Not moving to the edges pan.

Yes please have edge scrolling as an option. Also i've noticed that I can move the mouse pointer past the left edge of my monitor on to my second monitor. Please ensure that you lock the mouse cursor onto the main monitor for all the people with more than one monitor. Thanks

Also innociv, just because you have strategic zoom doesn't mean you can't have a minimap as well, just look at supreme commander.

f there is a minimap it should be like diablo2's..  Just be like a faint outline that shows just the enemy demigods.  It shouldn't have all the units on it and stuff with them being rather predictable and the maps not that huge.

The camera controls should be like WiC's imo. :/  Once you get used to em you'll see they're better for this type of game..

I agree with everyone in the thread, I found it very frustrating to have to use the arrows / mouse wheel to move when I need precise movements. I noticed there was an option to perma-follow your demigod with t, buit it still stems if I'm moving back to the fountain I want a quick view of the battle that's going on. I implore you to implement this or I think you'll find a lot more people will be dissapointed by the lack of controls.

Another issue is whether there's a way to do it at all on laptops. Laptops have screen edges. Middle buttons, not so much. It's only moderately playable without key zoom, something else I really want to see, but without screen edge move, it really is borderline unplayable.

I agree - I coudn't move the screen when I wanted to (yes, I found drag-zoom but find it clumsy), and adding that to the difficulty with working out who owns the units running around, and wondering what things like the light towers were for, I gave up after ten minutes. I just couldn't find a game in there.

On the upside, it performed well and looked great, so I'm looking forward to the next beta in the hope of it having a game in it!

Oh, there's a game in there, just play a bit longer and you should know what's up and be able to have a good time, it just takes a bit of getting used to. The units that look almost black aren't yours, the units that are almost white are, and that's a distinction you'll quckly find yourself making without thought. The UI is still clumsy though, it's my biggest complaint. The onscreen half is really well done, but the player ergonomics half is rather mediocre.

Edge scrolling is needed

The other big one is minimap. Without minimap half the strategy goes out the window, its far easier to coordinate teamwork and also watch out for ganks and the like with a minimap active. Zooming out everytime is NOT a good replacement.

Has anyone hit the 't' key during play? I only recently found out that it makes the screen follow your demigod. You almost don't even need mouse scrolling with the 't' key.

T is good. T is not perfect. T does not let you go quickly to your base in order to get out of a fight. Edge control has its uses.
