Does anyone remember ever having TWO good choices?

I wad sitting at the kitchen table with some clients of mine yesterday, a WW II Vet and his wife, when the subject of this election came up (Ack... I hate discussing politics with clients, it's a great way to ruin a relationship). One is supporting George W. the other John Kerry. The three of us agreed that we weren't entirely thrilled supporting either Candidate. During our conversation I asked them if either of them ever remembered having to make a tough choice between two candidates that they were excited about, i.e., the Candidates were both so good they couldn't decide. Neither of them could remember one.

As for me this will be my 7th time voting in a presidential election, I've never missed one. I can remember being excited about two Candidates (both sides of the aisle) but they never got past the primaries. Never have I had to choose between two Candidates I was thrilled about in a presidential election. I was wondering if any of you out there had come across such a situation.

Nope.. not at all. This time, I have decided, I think Kerry will actually make a great president, and he will make such a good president I think he will spend 8 years in the white house.

Yeah, pretty much. It's Friday night, I'm in the middle of New York City, and I'm writing comments on an internet forum.

Hey, I think we finally have a Kerry majority at JoeUser.

I can remeber having 2 good candidates...but both of them lost the 2004 Democratic primaries (Dean and Gephardt). Gotta love settling for the lesser of the evils (Kerry).

I'm too young to have been around in JFK's time, but I always hear he was a good president. Him and FDR. And lest we forget about Abraham Lincoln... but maybe that's going too far back. Recently there haven't been choices I'd be 100% comfortable voting for (maybe Dean, but then again I was a fan of Clinton too). In the 2000 election, I must admit I voted for Nader (runs and hides).

Your "evil" comment makes me think of Dr. Evil for some reason... but I digress.

Still, I would kick myself in the ass real hard if I voted for a 3rd party and Bush won by one vote (well, if I could vote).

It's possible, we could have exactly the opposite of what happened last year. Bush could win the popular vote and Kerry the electoral. That would be irony.

I can rememebr liking Paul Tsongas (didn't make it through the primaries). Thinking about voting for John Anderson (a Rep that ran as 3rd party). I think the closest I can remember to liking both Candidates was when Humphrey ran against Nixon (but I was about 8 years to young to vote then).

If I didn't like Bush, I'd vote for Badnarik. If Bush lost but could have won by my vote, that's all right. Neither Bush nor Kerry will destroy the planet in the next four years, and the fear that they will only perpetuates the "lesser of two evils" mantra. The way I see it: if you vote for the lesser of the two evils and not the good candidate, then you don't deserve a good candidate ever.
