Free doesn't work as they have to make money to stay in business. 60 Euros = ~87.273.

YOU WERE RIP OFF I PAID £29.99 AND I ORDERED IT FROM INTERNET 5MONTHS AGO NOT MUCH MORE THAN BUYING FROM THE US. I DID NOT NO OF THE STARDOCK WEB SITE, AS READ ABOUT GAME IN GAMES MAG. THIS GAME IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE I PAID AND THE EXPANSIONS ARE JUST THAT, EXPANSIONS!, THAT WILL CHANGE THE GAME DYNAMICS, SO THEY ARE MUCH MORE THAN ANY UPDATE AND WORTH THE MONEY BEING ASKED,BUT YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY IF YOU DONT WANT TOO.STARDOCK WILL STILL PROVIDE FREE UPDATES TO BALANCE THE GAME BUT EXPANSIONS TAKE DEVELOPEMENT AND THAT COST HENCE PRICE.

Remember--the real Sins game is online multiplayer against real human opponents.  I wouldn't worry too much about the expansions because I highly doubt that they will get played online unless they are either made mandatory or they add so much to the game that everyone wants to play with the expansion.

If having the expansions is made mandatory for online multiplayer then the game's small multiplayer player base will get cut down, perhaps to the point where the game is no longer viable on ICO.  I don't think they'll do that and I'd be surprised if the expansion were good enough that everyone wanted to get it, so it probably won't affedt online multiplayer (the real Sins game).

Blame Kalypso for localizing prices. If you bought from Stardock, you only would've paid in USD ;)

err the game itself was rather cheap ($60aus) compared to other trashy games that vendor for a lot more..($90+aus)

new expansion sounds like its promoting turtling btw.

Come on its $10 dollars, I told you this game will be getting better plus the upgrade of the online play, upgraded politics, new ships. Please yu know you are going to buy it I am.

people it goes about the expansion not about how much i paid for the game

That's odd, because the major point you were trying to make is that it should be free because you paid 60 euros for it.

yes but i want to know your opinion if the expansion should be free or not

It should not be free.

Ah but kryo, you're a Stardockian, so of course your view is tainted! }:)

That said, of course it should not be free

ROFLOL Kryo!

I aggree, though... I'd rather pay $10 per mini expansion than get no expansions or enhancements. $10 ain't nuttin', as they say (who the hell are "they", anyway?!), and I spend more than that a week on games that I don't even touch after 3-4 hours of play. That much once in a while for a game I do still play? No questions...

Depending on who you are, either little green people you see everywhere or voices in your head.

If it's worth while update then sure 10 bucks is fine from what I hear it will be worth while.

If it was just.

Fixed it so planets are more round....give us 10 buck!

then no lol.

It should be noted that Stardock, as a game publisher, is changing the way on how they do business.

A more ambitious view towards growth maybe? Whatever the reason, it's a reasonable way to milk the cow. It meets expectations on good quality content with development costs.

I'm more concerned with the storyline of Sins. Does this mean they scrapped the idea of an epic campaign in the likes of Homeworld? Man, I've been waiting for that since day one... :'(

Quote Zoomba:

All of the micro-expansions will be rolled-up into the big full expansion pack we've been talking about since launch. You know, the one with the campaign and all of that good stuff? The only thing is, you'll be waiting until late next year for that.

It must be the voices in my head again...I have the little green people in a jar on my mantle at home...

Not really, since the only way would be to repackage the updated game. Besides, you're not being very clever, even if it's a joke :P Stardock and IC don't take very kindly to implications of piracy ;)

Only if you want to get mobbed.

The expansions risk dividing the already crippled online community.

I personally think 1.05 will be the height of SoSE online experiance.  Unless they release another proper game, instead of these silly expansions.

Will the expansions decline in price like the game has?  Can we expect them to be 5 bucks after 6 months?  Probably not because they're distributed online.  It will be funny when you can buy the original for 10 bucks and then the 3 then an expansion for the same price which adds one or two units.

How can euros even complain about dollar prices...

I'm from germany and i like to buy US products (shipping costs are actually cheap too), digital downloads are even better.

My question is why would you spent $30 on getting the 3 or so addons when you could get them all at once for cheaper with the full expansion?

Why do you assume it will be cheaper? Has that been said anywhere? :P And even if ends up being $5 cheaper or something, is $5 really worth waiting a year to get it? :P

I prefer paid for expansions to monthly fee approaches.  Like guild wars versus most other mmo's. You can take or leave any of the expansions as you see fit, adn the expansions are humongous!  And no monthly fee.  If I haven't played in 6 months and suddenly get the urge to play for a day and just a day w/out paying any money, I can.  There are still free patches and content updates too, but the real big stuff -> paid for.  Plus, I can just leave it on my HDD, unplayed, just waiting for the day I'm in the mood again, w/out feeling like i"m wasting any money.   Thus, even though I've played some other MMO's off and on, for a month or two, only GW has kept a permanent place on my HDD, and I got every expansion.

Of course, it also comes down to - what exactly is being offered in the expansion.  Is it worth money and is it worth what's being asked.  That's up to the individual.  And I'm sure, over time, smaller little additions would be grouped into relatively cheap bundles for those that didn't like the initial price, but did like the idea.

I also like free additions, of course.  Look at oblivion/morrowind/unreal tournament 99, games w/great editors allowing practically anything, literally thousands of user made mods, total conversions even - all free.  Didn't stop me from paying money for shivering isles, the 2 morrowind expansions, all even in spite of all the free mods I had and ran.  Get the best of both worlds that way.  Man, the hours I put into those games.  On the other hand, charging 1.99 for a horse armour skin when oblivion first came out, I mean come on, ridiculous.  But again, the decisions are then up to the buyer.  Stardock deserves to be paid for their continuing work, and the customer deserves to decide whether or not they think its worth what's being asked.

On the other hand, expansions that are little more than bug fixes should never be charged for.  Bug fixes, and that includes new additions that are being added as workarounds to some problem or other, should always be free; just giving the customer what they originally paid for after all.
