Effects of military resources

I was playing Dread Lords my last game and I noticed something, I'm not sure if its in DA or not since i never looked before and this was my first DL game since the demo before i bought it.  I had 3 full military resource star bases, i had a tiny hulled ship with an attack of 42 while it was on the planet, the attack changed to 55 when it was launched. I think the base attack for the ship was supposed to be like 18 or 24 or something.

What would effect the attack value of a ship just because it was launched? I looked at a few other ships and all of them had increased attacks after launch but defence values stayed the same. Does this have anything at all top do with my resource bases and the effects from them?

Has anyone seen this before?

Also, does the added strength of your military from resources actually give you a higher score? I guess the same could be asked of reserach and economic resources.

As a side note, DL plays much differently than DA. It was a strange yet fun experience.

Strange stuff indeed.  I've seen the military resource mines add to my attack values when my ships were in flight, but I never thought to check them while in orbit.  The econ mines add to the score, so I'd assume that the mil ones would too.  Perhaps they don't if your ships are in orbit.

Definitely yes for econ and research, yes also for militrary resources but only if you have noticeable numbers ships to apply the bonus to.

Basically you get credit for your "military ranking" that's listed under the Stats & Graphs tab of your civilization manager. This is listed in the Military section under Abilities. This is not to be confused with military might shown in the bar graph which is actually the ratio of your military ranking compared to that of the currently selected AI.

Anyway since your military bonus multiplies the attack and defense value of your ships then military resources increase your score as long as you have large numbers of ships. If you don't have any ships then military resources do nothing for your score.

I looked at a few other ships and all of them had increased attacks after launch but defence values stayed the same.
I've never seen or heard of anything like this, in fact this is opposite to what I would expect to happen. Your military resource mining bonus applies equally to ships in flight or in orbit about a planet. However you actually get a 25% bonus to attack and defense values (rounded down) while a ship is in orbit, so a ship with an attack value of 42 (regardless of what bonus you have) should have an attack value of 52 if parked in orbit.

So what you describe really doesn't make sense. The only thing that I can think of is if you have any military starbases (as opposed to military resource mining starbases). In this case as your ships come into the military starbases area of influence then their attack values could increase.

Now i wonder if maybe i got those switched, where as it was higher on planet...  ya know i think that WAS the case. Cause i started to send my extra ships to planets to get higher values and add something to score, albiet not much.

I guess i just never knew that ships in orbit got a bonus to weapons. I assume this is the case for DA as well as DL?

DL, DA *and* ToA. It also should be a bonus to weapons and defense but I'm not positive about the defense part. I'll check next time I get a chance.
