Demigod Experience at PAX

Just back from a long day at PAX. I have to say one of my highlights of the day was my experience when playing Demigod. I had not really hard much about it before going to the booth to check out more infromation about Sins. After taking a look at others playing the game, one of the staff there asked if i wanted to play. I said sure and bang I was hooked. The staff member was a great help and he really took his time to really help me get the basics and then make suggestions. It was a CO-OP game but man was it a lot of fun... good enough time to really just get a handle of the game play and get me to pre-order...

I can not wait to get the beta!!!

Thank you so much for comforting us eager preordereers :D

But now to the important part, was The Fairy (the Plantgirl one) in the Beta?

I don't think the PAX beta will be the same as the beta we will see at the end of this week. I expect at most 2 demigods (probably 1) and 1 map.

Remember this is only to test whether there are technical problems like drivers / direct x conflicts

The PAX Demo had 4 characters (the Assassins, not the generals) and no maps--By no maps I mean that they had a special, simple (kind of vanilla) map.  They said that they gernerals would also be playable in the beta, but did not say explicitly that they would be playable on Thursday. However I had assumed that.

They really impressed me with the Rook.  That guy has incredible animations.  He has 3 towers above his torso and one has a wizard in it who will cast spells that can be amplified through a kind of wizard's tower, and another has archers that will shoot enemies,  This is all going on as you're doing your regular attacks.

PAX had 6 characters including the opponents, they had 3 playable charecters, Queen of Thorns was in the PAX beta as an opponent, but here units were strangely absent. The rook dosn't have a wizards tower from what I know, the spells you cast were all the rook, you might have been thinking of the tower of light you can have the bounces the other tower of lights. And they had two maps, the waterfall one and the lava one.

In screenshots the Rook fires a light beam from one of his towers.

I read somewhere that that's some kind of upgrade, but I have no idea how valid that is.

I also read that the generals' units were incomplete animation wise and so were absent.

There was an upgrade that gave you a tower of light, which is probably what they were confusing that with.

I was under the impression that there were going to be 4 characters and all of the skill trees and most if not all of the items were going to be in the Beta.

The PAX demo I played from my impression was not the Beta version but that the Beta would be more fully featured. The PAX playable was just a build for the show.

Rumor also had it that the beta would be availble possibly on Thursday. So lets keep our fingers crossed!

Beta has been planned for thursday for a while, the beta will *Eventually* have evreything, the earlier betas will probably have less than the current pax version.

Yeah in anathor post they said the Beta will have MUCH less, and is not supposed to be "Fun" but to test the viability of the game engine. In other words its to test to see how well it runs. But if the beta is one tenth of what I saw in the trailer it should be fun anyways :P

Interesting Cooley as that was not the same impression i walked away with from the booth. I hope it is more than just viability, that will be a let down from my PAX experience with it.

From the post i got this info from, the FIRST beta will be simply to test the engine on a large vaqriety of pc's and will not encorporate a whole lot of the game. the version at PAX is more complete then the beta.

*This info is not 100% but i believe it to be accurate*

I think that the beta will give a better impression of the course of an entire game than the PAX version, though, because it's not designed to be played in 10 minutes. Also, the generals will probably get their minions.

My understanding is that beta 1 is just to see if it works at all and will have most of the stuff removed.

Reply #18 Top

This is true. However, there should still be enough features to tell what the basic progression of the game is like and it, unlike the PAX version will not be deliberately unbalanced. At least the sins one had most of the framework (mostly). The beta will have the entire run of the game. It may have a small selection of items, or a small selection of demigods, but the main elements are there, which for demigod, should include leveling.

Right now what's on the table for Beta 1:

* Waterfall Map
* Fully playable Regulus, Torchbearer and Rook
* Full item shop

You guys really need a more relible edit system:

Is that an early pick of 50? or all 150?

Not sure of the exact count. Items are by no means locked down.
Reply #23 Top

Indeed, we brainstorm new items all the time and we imagine beta testers will be heavily involved as well.

Yay! So EVERYONE that bought the Pre-Release (Before Now) is invited to the beta? Just trying to confirm info.

As far as I know, yes. I haven't seen anywhere mentioning it being full.
