Problems with skinning menus in SKS6

SKS apparently doesn't like Photoshop cs3

Okay, so I'm trying to create a WB using SKS6. Everything is going just fine except for one minor point: skinning the menus. And even the menus are going pretty well, except for 2 issues...

1. I tend to get funky gray shadows behind inactive text (sometimes).

2. Skinned menus don't seem to want to cooperate with Photoshop cs3. This, of course, is the greater problem. As soon as I skin the menu background in SKS6, Photoshop cs3 no longer wants me to be able to access the menu items. They not only gray out and give me funky gray shadows, but I can't even select anything except for recent files, which usually comes up empty.

As soon as I switch to another WB, all of my menu items and recent files reappear.

Is this a glitch between SKS6 and PS cs3, or am I being stupid? :p

I've been fighting this for weeks. I thought I had a work around by using sks5 to skin my menus, but that doesn't seem to be working out, either.

Basically, I'm not going to build a WB that I can't use. Problem is, I really want to build one, and I want to skin my menus! X-(

Oh yeah, I've tried this on both of my computers. One is Vista Business x32, and one is Vista Ultimate x64. Sorry 'bout that! :)

Here is the solution to the deactivated menus in PS cs3: Forum Post:Glitchy skinning issue

As for the gray shadows on the menus: Open the Change skin colors section in SKS6. Select show me the skin defined system colors from the dropdown menu.

The Item Menu should be set to match your graphic menu background. Same with Menu Text, Disabled Text, and Selected Text: they should match your text settings in the menu section as closely as possible.

I've been known to be wrong about many things.....and someone will show up and tell me so if that is the case ;)

What Tim said, plus black menus are a pain in the rear, probably not a good way to start skinning WB as they are more tricky, unfortunately colors that you will need to match up to get the menus looking correctly also affect other areas of the WB, Trial and Error.

WoHoo!!! Thank you both! :CONGRAT: 2of3, I read your forum post, and the maximized window issue for PScs3 was the answer. I haven't had time yet to fix the skin colors, but I'll be playing with that next.

vStyler, thanks for your continued support and advice. I'm stubborn though. I'm a gonna figure out how to make dark menus work!

I wrote the book on stubborn, I'm not saying its impossible, its just a fight most of the time is all. Soon as you think you got it right, sure enough another area of WB gets messed up.. u fix it.. it breaks something else...etc.
