Internet Explorer 8 beta 2

I can say that for the first time in a really long time I'm considering leaving Opera.  I've been using it a few hours so far and it's definately good.

What are your thoughts?

TheDarkKnight . . perhaps there are better ways to present your thesis without the vitriol.  It may enhance it's reception with those you are trying to communicate with.

/me takes off his Jafo hat adn walks away  ;)

Dr J0622reply 12My thoughts?FF3 with the ie plugin and several others like stealthier fox, faster fox...etc.Why?MUCH faster, uses open code, and it ain't Microsoft. Amazes me that Impulse went with ie7....wait one....the Vista deal with MS...oh well...
Stardock already explained why they used IE7.  It can be easily embedded in an application, and FF can't.
And it's hard to honestly say 'MUCH faster' when you haven't even tried the alternative, isn't it?

I'm not about to, either. 1) See Science and Tech section of Goole News from this morning. 2) My comments about speed come from data posted yesterday on either PC Mag.com or on PC World.com.

Based on these reports (altho I run Vista) I made my decision (one shared by many w/o knowing the stuff above). Who knows what it'll do to my OS? I hope Stardock doesn't end up putting stuff in Impulse that'll gum up folks who haven't got XP SP3 on their systems (does the IE embedded update to IE8 Beta 1/2 without us knowing?...probably not, but I'd like to hear that from guys "in the know"...I just don't know enough about this stuff).

I think it's prudent to wait with MS Beta stuff because of it's links to the OS. Not so regarding, Fences altho I read rumors that trying to "turn it off" or uninstall it can play havoc with windows explorer (other posts re Fences).

doc, i was half asleep when making both of those posts. i'm so ashamed. i'll be alright after my nap.

Snidely....good Lord, man...it's all in jest.
People who stay fanboys to one internet browser are as stupid as console fanboys.

Dark Knight...try to be civil. ASK "Why?" before calling names: You might like the results of humility over those of arrogance.

It may be your choices, but CHOICES CAN BE SMART OR STUPID. If you don't agree, go stand in the road, get hit by a car, and if ya survive, tell me that wasn't stupid.

You equate standing in the middle of the road with choosing a browser? Bit over the top imho.
Philly...don't bother....you stand as much chance of reasoning with an angry person as succeeding in changing the speed of a river by trying to push it. ;)

EDIT: Zu and Snidely's comments came in before my post (I type VERY slowly and that gives my old head time to think and reconsider). Thanks, Zu and Snidely....as usual, you're on top of things. :D

Yes, you can use whatever you want, but just like laying in the middlke of the interstate, using a browser that 'gives' you thousands of trojans make you stupid.

    ^^^^^     that's a great pic!

and to zubaz .......... to quote you, "Zubaz takes off his Jafo hat adn walks away",  the word is "and".  ;)   if i remember it, i'll bring a dictionary for you to detroit.

Jafo pointed out that I also udes "it's" instead of "its" and ended the sentence incorectly (with a preposition)

Okay, say any of you are above 18, and you care about your finances.  I know, big words!

Then you browse on the wrong browser, to have someone steal your identity.  Now it's hard to get a credit card, take out loans, or even get a job.

I know, you're living off mommy's salary, but one day things will change.  If you get your identity stolen you may as well get hit by a car.

So yes, if someone was to make decisions to use OS's with bad leaks, and then do stuff like online banking, it WILL lead to very bad situations.

You won't change, Zubaz...no matter how much he tries

Yeah I came out harshly, but sometimes the truth needs to be heard.  You don't like being insulted?  Fine.  I won't.  But if you do any form of bill paying, online banking, or even buying online, your identity is in threat.  Use a browser or an os with holes, your putting your entire life in danger.

Bad credit can mean:

Can't get new cars
Can't buy the house you wanted
Can't get the job you wanted
Can't get loans with resonable rates
Can't get good cc's with good rates
Can't get electronics with a down payment, need the money on hand.

Pretty much everything that's good will be taken.

And yes, I know at least 30% of you are over 18...

Sorry for my sarcastic attitude today.  I've been dealing alot with troublemaker kids lately.  But yes, I meant this is the way of credit.

You should also never give you credit card to a stranger.

Oh . . wait . . like that waiter.  Or that cashier?
Yeah I came out harshly, but sometimes the truth needs to be heard.
Your message is fine (if an opinion and extreme); but your method offsets much of the benefit you are trying to pass along
your putting your entire life in danger.
A bit extreme, no?  Bordering on cRaZy.  :)

As to bad credit and the things you list.  All can be purchased . . just use money you have, not money you have borrowed.

Again, sorry.  I do tend to hold alot in, and I guess sometimes it's easier to yell at people you don't know then do something that will be VERY BAD.

But I guess you guys don't like it when I do this either eh.  Maybe I'll get a punching bad.  Or play TF2 when I'm like this.

Well yes, most things can be purchased, but when it comes to a house or a car, if you don't have good credit today, you'll be spending all your money on gas and living in your parents basement.

AT THE VERY LEAST you need good credit to buy those two.

Thinking like this is bad for America.  It saddens me.

/me won't go any further off topic though . . count your blessing  ;)

Darkknight:

I use IE

a) I'm 39
b) I have an A+ Credit rating
c) I have never gotten malware solely due to my choice of browser ( last time was downloading a Trillian skin on customize.org a couple years back )
d) have lived on my own for 18 years

Care to enlighten me on the consequences of my choice of browser again?

Well I suppose if you have $200,000 laying around you don't need credit for a house...

And it depends on what IE you have.  The question more or less lies in responsibility.  Yes, you can get by with an os with holes, but one without makes it alot easier.

And you can get viruses while using good os's, just like you can get hit by a car without being on an interstate.

But using a fully patched browser is the best thing you can do, esp if you do anything online with your money.

Oh hurray. This has turned into yet another thread with people puffing up their chests and claiming why their choice is better. And here I thought maybe there would be some actual useful information about IE8 Beta 2.  :(

TheDarkKnight2008, that'll do. No more trolling or I'll sick the moderators on you.

Can you guys find a suitable way to repute my arguments, or does it boil down to 'your a troll'?

If you guys want to ignore the harsh reality that is identity theft, then be my guest.  I personally don't care if you end up homeless.  And after you called me a troll, I won't be giving you money.

But please promise me this:  When you need your pc repaired and can't do it, go into a computer tech's office and tell them this, and if they say what I say, call them a troll.  All that will repiar your pc in the end will be the geek squad.

TheDarkKnight2008, you're acting like a child now. When my rig needs work done to it, I do it. I promise I won't ask you to work on it. I'm sure i know more about repairing computers than you do, anyway.

I'm old enough to be your Dad. Actually, my daughter is your age.

I use IE 98% of the time and my credit is fine. Nobody is saying IE is completely safe but neither is Firefox. When did you
become an expert on internet browsers and security?

Yes, you are becoming a troll with your recent posts.

I've been a computer repairman in the past and I'm going back to school under the field of network administrator.  All my life has been devoted to computer security, and people with attitudes about what they wanna do annoys me, as generally they end up with problems again.
