if the red sox don't win i'm going to be massively upset...also, on a similar note, does anyone know the origin of the term "86'd?" I used to know but I forgot and now that I saw it it's going to bother me forever

There are dozens of alleged origins, my favorite being that 86 refers to the floor of the Empire State Building from which people jumped (or were thrown) to commit suicide before protective railing was installed.
