Permissions when uploading a screenshot (newbie question)

If I'm uploading a screenshot of my desktop that includes icons, wallpaper, etc from various artists, and not distributing any of the components individually, do I need permission from the artists?  What about if I've recolored an icon but am only showing it in the screenshot and not distributing it?  Thanks.

Also, if the screenshot shows IconX background images that I've recolored, do I need permission from Stardock?

The main concern is to obscure or cover a major part of the wallpaper so someone would not be able to take your screenshot, crop it and reuse the wall.

The other items you mentioned are not usable in their native formats.

adding credits, for the authors who created the pieces used in the screenshot, to your description is always a good idea. ;)

Thanks. Speaking of adding credits, how do I include links to where the pieces came from? It says on the upload form not to use HTML, but I know I've seen screenshots that had links to the artists along with the credits.

just put in the web address of the link you want and it will automatically create the link.
