Impulse--What fresh hell is this ???!!!???

help help help help help

:(   OK, I have posted on here about my disgruntlization with Impulse, but now...I got an email from Stardock telling me that because I am a "loyal Object Des)ktop" customer, I "win" a free theme for Desktop X.  Email tells me "To install your free theme download and install Impulse. The free theme will appear on the MyDesktop tab automatically (it has already been added to your account). Download Impulse here."  Fine.  I click "there" and click "download Impulse."  Silly me.  I ASSUMED there was a good REASON for telling me to download Impulse, when, of course, things are "automatically" set up.

Well, Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire, Impulse downloads, I click open to install and away the little color bars go doing their thing--updating or adding new theme or whatever.  So I try to open Impulse to check out my brand new AUTOMATICALLY added to my account and I get the error message, " Impusle has encountered an error and must close.   Please see the error log for more information.  Hmmmm, don't tell me Impulse has "borked" (I love that expression!) and now I can't access Impulse at all.  Let's try to restart Vista....hmmm, NOW Dreamscapes has crashed, I have to tell Windows Desktop Manager in the MMC to start, pull up Dreamscapes from the Impulse Dock (that is the only way I can get it to work for the past month and a half--a royal pain in the ass, but I learned to put "services" pinned in the start menu, so I can live with that) and pick a different theme than the one I was using (otherwise nothing happens--I'm just pushing keys to beat the band and still n theo dream file) THEN pick the one I had running before beginning tonight's Impulse debacle.

AH...there it goes, the error message pops up again.  I click OK and close the window.  It pops up again...and again...and again.  Frustrated, I look on the Stardock website for info on the forums.  Up pops the error message.  Now it it doing so every few minutes, forcing me to click OK before I can do anything else on my laptop.  Then it slows down to only about every five minutes.  Now I'm the first to admit I'm no computing expert, but I'm not totally stupid.  I know this whole primrose path began with the email giving me UNCLEAR instructions so that now the whole friggin' program is, again, borked.  Back to the email I go.  Ok, here's a link telling me to click it to download Stardock Central.  Ok, this part is new to me, so I go ahead and click away and...

DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!  Now I can't use Stardock Central because it is not accepting my login information.  OK, let's click to get registration info via email.  No go.  Still. won't accept the serial number the email gives me.

OK, I'm getting really pissed now.  Thi! piece of crap Impulse has convoluted yet another whole process, and now my ACCOUNT info is borked too.  I'm really disgusted with this whole friggin' mess and about ready to demand my money back from Stardock.  I'm emailing the whole error history to support and I expect someone's got some major 'splainin' to do!   X-(

BY THE WAY, here is what the error reports (at least 30-40 times). Bear in mind I have been dealing with this from 2:40 a.m. to now (7:25 am). I'm so angry I can't sleep!

If someone would be so kind as to tell me what the hell this all means, or in the alternative how I can fix this mishegoss before I get all ballistic on support, I'd appreciate it very much.

Hello DawnD13
Could you give us some more info as to what OS and the security software with what settings you have for it as such.
Also have you tried to unistall and reinstall Impulse yet?

First suggestion is to catch some shut-eye....being tired does not help...it simply fosters errors.

Then pop back in here in a few hours....as it's currently early morning, Thursday, Michigan time.

In a few hours there'll be active support people popping in here, though support is 'strictly' via [email protected] ...;)

Dawn,

I'd suggest you uninstall Impulse, reboot, then re-install from here;
http://storage.stardock.com/files/Impulse_setup_full.exe

If that fixes Impulse, you can then use the MyColors program to install the Burgundy theme, rather than using Impulse.

I've e-mailed you the serial number for the theme, just click the green 'Add Registration' button in Impulse, then paste the serial number and your e-mail addy to install.

I think you could have used My Colors to download the desktop.. If it is the same one I got.
I have had a great deal of problems with ImPulse also. Not using it until they get it right. I don't work a job where I can deal with my computer all the time to fix problems. I will be patient and wait.
I know they will get these problems worked out.
Sorry for your pain...  X-(  and frustation...

pull up Dreamscapes from the Impulse Dock

Hi DawnD13 I'm not sure if I understand this correctly but, based on this, it's sounds to me like you already had Impulse installed on your laptop when you clicked on your email to install Impulse? Is that correct?

Just trying to help by understanding a little more about what happened.

Here's a suggestion to you and all the other people that bitch about people bitching about programs. Take your own advice and simple don't read it if it bothers you. No one is forcing you to read. Just go away and read something you like. Some people do have problems with programs.
