Why would anyone use Windowblinds?

Why would anyone use Windowblinds?

I don't want to start any trouble, but all this talk of 'Premium skins' is just rediculous. I think Windowblinds is old, buggy, and outdated, but thats just my opinion. Back in the old days of Win 9X, I hailed Stardock as a saviour that changed the horrendous way my computer looked, but with the advent of modern OS like Vista, it's a totally unecessary waste of my time. Windowblinds has always been a bugfest, but now, it doesnt even have a skin that matches the elegance and class of the native Windows GUI.  To make matters worse, a subscription at Wincustomize doesn't even seem to give you anything. Its like, ok, pay us 20 bucks and then anything worth trying will cost you another $5 a pop. For someone who is quite happy with the Vista GUI, I say let someone else pay that. The only Stardock product I have any use and praise for is Object Dock. The free version is really amazing and it does everything I need so I didnt pay the 20 bucks, but if there were any indications of future development I would be supportive of it.

I'm reminded of my first impressions on coming to the forums and reading posts. I used to reply "Just another person putting his fishing line in the water to see if he gets any bites".

Things really haven't change much in four years reading posts here. Still have those folks making the same kind of posts looking for people to bite on them. Guess what, they do.  :SURPRISED:

It looks like C242 is the only guy who understood this post and offered up an example of what he likes about WB and what he thought I might like about it. I guess its trolling when I ask questions about products,

When you go about it in the way you did it is obvious that you were going off on a tangent and not just curious what you could find out about the product.

If that wasn't your intention then maybe you should try thinking before putting your fingers to the keyboard next time. ;)

I slightly understand why the guy would be saying this. Now don't flog and tar me as I am a huge fan of WB and I use it everyday.

Hear out my thoughts:

1. WB does have some problems with certain programs even on vista....granted using the exceptions generally solves that

2. The vast majority of skins for WB have compatibility problems with programs and the OS. I have found that very few skins work properly with vista media center.

Just my thoughts

The only problem with this opinion TechMedik and this isn't disagreeing with your thoughts, but I've been using WindowBlinds and Stardock products since 2003.

I run both Vista and XP at home, and I've NEVER once experienced a single problem with it or anything resembling application or system instability. Further more all WB skins works the same way on both Vista and XP for me, so I'm speaking from my own experience and not everyone else.

When stuff like this happens it's really easy to blame the software, but 99 out of 100 times it's a personal problem, not global.

So while I understand Mr AnthonyR's attempt to convey his unhappiness, this post was targeted directly at a product that hundreds of thousands of people use, believe in and if necessary will defend.

Mr AnthonyR flamed the wrong application in the wrong community and further stated that he meant what he said and won't change a word.

So now the community is doing what it does whether it's more opinion or rebuttal.

Anyone else seeing the irony, considering user has Vista & going on about a buggy & outdated app..lmao..

How about the fact that although many have purchased Vista, many, many, people still have not, and so we spend our money to make XP look the way we want it to look and it's too bad that you somehow find that offensive. However, in this world you are indeed entitled to your opinion and now that you have voiced it, I hope you will at least consider not offending our collective intelligence any further by posting anymore of your " opinions". Like the others I do find it quite puzzling that you bothered posting your thoughts anyway, like it has been said repeatedly already, IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SOFTWARE...DON'T USE IT!!!

Thank you. I for one appreciate that Anthony R, when people change thier opinions I always get so confused.  :SURPRISED:

The only reason that Windows Vista looks as good as it does is because Microsoft finally had to sit up and take notice of what we skinners had been doing for YEARS! B[]

I wouldn't be too afraid of new Harley rider's these days... its mostly just of a bunch of old, rich lawyer types who like to dress up in leather jackets and act tough on the weekend.

Not only does the op bash WB users on a WB site, he now bashes old Harley riders? I take that as a personal insult. I am 55 years old and ride a Harley. I am a Driller on a gas well drilling rig and I command(yes command)a crew of roughnecks and they don't call them roughnecks because they are sissy boys who sit at a keyboard and fling crap! Act tough? I can out work most 19 year olds.

anthony r, I invite you to feast on feces.

Sorry folks, I tried to keep it clean.

Wow talking about poking a bear in the eye with a stick.
I love the stock vista GUI however I am not going to blast that I hate the Idea of
windowsblinds(I don't hate the Idea of windowsblinds) all over a website called wincustomize.

I'm with cplair on this one, being that I run WB on Vista with no software/hardware/driver compatibility issues whatsoever and can see no logical reason to slam WB on the basis of "It don't work well with Vista!", cos it does.

I also dual boot with XP Pro and can say with confidence that WB works equally well on both OSes. The only time a skin may not apply perfectly in Vista is because the skinner created it in XP for XP... but that is understandable and not the fault of WB, which still applies it regardless and does a pretty good job at it to boot.

About my only complaint of Windowblinds is that it does not provide the option to store skins in a location of my choice (unlike IconPackager) so I can have just the one directory on an independent storage drive for both OSes. To do that I would need to change the paths in the registries, and I don't particularly like messing with that.

Other than that I'm really happy with Windowblinds... 'cepting it don't fetch coffee and sandwiches. ;p

Pretty hard to take topic starter seriously or even believe he's bought a previous version of wb when in the same paragraph won't pay for an app he considers a good one & then uses a lame exscuse as to why, also where's the backup of the claim regarding bugs, what bugs are being referred too there's no mention, nahhh this smacks of i want it for free & if it ain't it's buggy crap type posts, there's plenty i see on my travels round the net

'Sounds like bold talk from a one-eyed fat man'....'go for your guns you sons of bitches....'

[The Duke at his eloquent best]...;)

Gotta admit there's a lot of wanker Harley riders out there....kinda like the two-wheel equivalent of the he-man 4x4 off-roader that'd wet it's pants if it ever got mud in its treads.

I see the entire gamut of bikers....from 'A' to 'B'...each year at PI...for the MotoGP [next month- yay] and the World Supers.

Some are fair-dinkum...urine-soaked colours and all, and a breath that'd sour a pavlova....but most are his-and-hers designer intercom helmets and matching gloves....oh....and with boots with Rossi's name on them.  Whoopie-do.

The latter are the ones who are one-pot screamers that give bikers a bad name...usually attempting burnouts and ending up in prison to sober up, wondering where to buy a clutch lever for an '82 softail cos they broke theirs when the hog fell over drunk too.

The former live at home with mum, their bike [in the bedroom] and a 12 gauge....[cos it's cheaper than an alarm]...and mum's the only one who can convince his jeans to bend at the knees again.

All said, they're a fun bunch of people.  The only difference between them and the ones that race/follow the Historic bikes is that the latter are way older and carry more injuries...;)

Have to agree with Jafo....we get swarmed by "bikers" twice a year and most are yuppy types on vacation that come to Daytona to be cool and be seen.

Harley's look best traveling slowly, hold their resale value quite well and last long enough to be passed from generation to generation. If they were not sold with their "Bad Boy" image they would be too much like sensible shoes and few would buy them. ;)

As for me,I miss my old T120 Bonnie and BSA Rocket3.Best bikes I ever pushed.

That'll go 'whoosh' over most people....unless you ever had a Trumpie or something similar [mine was 2 Spitfires....but same deal, really]...;)
