Personal Map Creator

Sorry if this might be a repost, but I scanned the forums pretty quickly to see if there was another post about it, couldn't find one.

Anyways, I'm here to give an idea to the game.. A personal map creator, much like they have on Warcraft 3. It doesn't have to be as complex as WC3's is but having something that could bring the community back again and again would be something that could keep this games replay value at a maximum. I mean look at Warcraft 3, its been almost 8 years (?) and they still have a huge player base. Whats the main reason that I believe that is? Custom games. DotA wasn't a pre-made blizzard game, but it was created by a group of very smart and creative "randoms". Any thoughts on the idea?

It might take the game a little bit longer to release, but that seems like the norm nowadays with any game publisher. I'm not saying you have to stoop to this "norm", but its almost something video gamers expect. Hell, I'd much rather have a fully polished game than a half finished, should-still-be-in-beta game. *Cough* *Cough*  Age of Conan (No offense to any that still play it).

Anyways, just a thought. I'd like to hear what the community (And possibly the developers) have to say about it.

Edit: Seems like there's already a post about it in the wrong section, but any comments would still be appreciated.

I gave a thumbs up on the last thread for a map creator.
It would increase involvement with the game for people who like to make their own maps,
add replayability, ect ect.

so yea, i would love to see this in a final polished version :)

and off topic, AoC did need to be in beta. . . i found myself at an instance halfway through the game that wasnt even finished/buggy :NOTSURE:

and a 3dsmax importer..

Just give us the tools the devs use. o_O

I want to be able to add new demigods and spells(NOT just change some values of current spells, but create entirely new ones that behave differently from ones in the game.) at the very least, and make new maps.

I agree too. Anything GPG can give us (the community) to work with will be great.

At least a map creator please :)

While I agree that a map editor enhances the games replayability greatly, I also think that it wouldn't be as important for this game. This arena style team play is more of a minigame, which lacks the wide reaching gameplay required for a multitude of user-created maps.

In other words, the players that create new maps would be recreating the same game with different environments. While this is not a bad thing, it lessens the need of the map editor for a few reasons:

1) When I look at the immense detail and vertical aspects that go into the maps we've already seen, it makes me apprehensive that ANY map editor could recreate such a thing. It just looks like alot of programing and art is involved in every single map. (Haven't they talked about difficulties in pathing aspects of the maps already?)

2) With such a limited range of gameplay options, the makers of this game are obligated (in my opinion at least) to release map packs with highly detailed and programed levels. When this job is left into the hands of the players you just won't receive the awesome user maps like DoTA or all of the other custom maps and mods from sins or SC.

Weren't most of the maps that are in RTS's or 4X games that have badass map editors like (sins and war3 and SC) created with the very same map editor?

^If that is true then how could demigod come with a map editor? Unless they already are using a pretty simple map editor, then they'd have to create a whole new system...

Well it'd also be my guess maps would be officially released in updates to the game as beta goes on and after the real release (at least i hope!). So yea, maybe a map creator isn't necessary, just a perk or addition imo.
