ships in orbit (i.e. unlaunched ships)

ships in orbit around planets (i.e. unlaunched) defend the planet one at a time - rather than as a fleet.
is this normal?
is this how it is in DA and/or TA?

is it better to: launch them, create fleets then set their sentry to on?

cheers!

If you learn the Planetary Defense line of techs, you will be able to build:

Orbital Fleet Manager: Ships in orbit join a fleet using your logistics points (1 per planet)

Hyperion Fleet Defense: Ships in orbit join a fleet regardless of your logistics points (buildable once per civ)

I never leave ships in orbit, unless it's the planet I've built the Spin Control Center on. I prefer to have my defensive ships to be mobile fast-reponse fleets, or stationed at crucial starbases. I'd much rather be actively hunting & destroying enemy ships than waiting for them to show up near my/at planets.

Unthinkable! ;) Just wait til the moon(s) are full again, and you'll feel differently...

Ahh...but on those 3 days I have prepared and had all ship-producing planets only needing 1 week remaining to create ships, then the following week quick-buy more of the same. Instant navy...just add blood.

Which reminds me ~looks at a calendar~ that would be starting tonight...

Now we are getting off track...

I prefer non-military wins and I rarely leave ships in orbit, basically only when I'm seriously worried that a transport fleet might sneak in.

AFAIK ships in orbit do get a bonus of some sort, not sure how much though.

I believe it's 25%, which can make a difference to your military rating if your garrisoning enough planets with decently powerful ships. Still, like KP I prefer to do the fighting out in space :)

oh yeah same here, but if you were trying to point farm, it might pay off to have a showy ship in orbit but one that's actually useful out in space.
