Skinstudio 6 Freezing Issues

When editing certain elements on specific skins, the program hangs.

I don't know if this happens to anybody, but whenever I edit certain elements of a skin, such as the menu backgrounds, or the Taskbar, the whole program freezes up. I always end up launching Task Manager to end task. And when I try again doing the exact same thing, it freezes again. Saving the skin as a different name doesn't work.

However, when I open a completely different skin and edit the problem element, it works just fine. But some other element in that skin causes the program to hang. I don't believe that it's an intermittent problem. It happens whenever you try to edit a specific element.

At times, to get my skin the way I want it to, I have to start over with a new skin and reload all of my graphic files, one by one, and it's time consuming. Will there be a Skinstudio update that resolves this issue? Are there other problems, such as the OS i'm using (I use Vista Business), the file size of my skin, (It's rather large, over 20 MB!) or something else? Does anybody else face this issue? Feel free to comment.

I experienced the exact same symptoms when editing the explorer glass images. If they weren't transparent, SKS crashed hard.

Happens to me when I try to edit different sections of different skins.. for example, I go into Controls section of My Avanti skin.. i think it is.. SKS6 crashes every single time.. Hopefully I'll never need to update it  :NOTSURE:

I don't know if this is what is causing SKS6 to crash for you but I've already found if you have overlapping margins on a piece, SKS6 will crash.

Example: Toolbar is 30 px high; bottom margin is 17, top margin is 14 ... they overlap, SKS6 crashes.

Open in SKS5 to adjust the margins for no overlap (SKS5 doesn't mind if they overlap) and SKS6 will be happy again.

On the other hand SKS5 can break your skin; best to adjust the margins in notepad to be safe.

I've only had SKS6 crash on me during 2 incidents. The main is when applying a skin when WB is not running (ie. applying the skin when no skin is already applied), this causes SKS6 to crash every time for me. The other was when I completely deleted the XP Shutdown/Logoff sections for the Buzzz skin (which I had no intention of skinning for XP anyway and didn't want the 'stock' images in the file). I haven't noticed any of these others ~shrug~
