Why is it I only get huge responses whenever I talk about politics and 0 when I talk about life and what glorious events it has to offer?

Hi alison,

Probably because the election is fewer than two weeks away. My guess is that once it's settled who's going to be the next president, there'll be more readers for other topics.

Because with politics you can name call, bash, and abuse other people all in the name of politics.

Or maybe it's just because people are like me, and read your good articles, take something from it and think about it just don't post saying they've done so. Sorry if that offends you but I believe I have read every one of your articles, and even given some insightful's without commenting.

If you wish I can try to at least comment something small like "Good thoughts, I liked the read" from now on...

Because people don't really care. They can read about life's daily happenings anywhere. Politics incite!

I do think politics is heavy on most folks minds lately (and for the next few weeks)

But I also think that the political debate feels like something bigger than an individual. In a political debate, I feel like I am making a case for a position that might build support and contribute to having an actual effect on how people think and act in this country. When I read about other's discussions of "life and what glorious events it has to offer" I tend to think "how nice for you." And I pass that sentiment on (with additional comments about eloquent writing style and the like), but it doesn't feel like anything more than feedback to the original author. That's fine and sometimes fun. But it's not quite the same as getting into something like or a debate on topics that seem to be important and about which there are many divergent and contested positions.
