Well, we should indeed figure out what DotA stands for.
Most of the players that call themselves DotA players don't know squat about the concept itself.
Defense of the Ancients was a revamp of an older map called Defense of the Elves. From the undead and elves, they wanted to give it more depth and more flexibility. They renamed the teams. After doing that, they thought they should rename the map. It was the first step towards the DotA we all play today. Although it is a protected map, the first DotA versions were unprotected and some rogue versions appeared. Some forums started to take form. Some small communities. To cut it short, DotA is just a rip-off of another map. It's the best rip-off. There are a lot of great maps out there: rpgs, aoses, etc. And these maps are far more complex than the usual DotA but they lack the pr team that this version of DotA had. And believe me, the DotA maps have gone through a lot of hands.
I hate the fact that everybody states : Demigod is a stand-alone version of DotA. It will be so awesome. The only thing I agree with is that it will be Awesome! But any references to the map DotA were made because the devs had to relate the game to something familiar to the masses. And DotA succeeds in that. I think it is just marketing. And a smart move indeed. But I do hope that my hours of Demigod won't be spoiled by the most of the tards playing DotA. It has just a small community of intelligent human beings that support it. I know it because I contributed to some beta testing phases.
Demigod will be the evolution of the concept brought forth by DotA. At least, I hope so. I was a hardcore DotA player when I was playing RoC. I hope I'll become a hardcore Demigod player as well.
So, for any individuals that think Demigod has anything to do with DotA : if there will be similarities, those will relate to the concept behind the map and not with anything personalized within the map itself.
Again people, it's just marketing and pr. Behind every great individual/object/brand stands a very powerful pr engine.
