ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

HAPPY ONE ANNIVERSARY TO THE METAVERSE LEAGUE

One year ago in June of 2007, Ghostwes proposed a monthly competition that with the help and input of other GCII players, like Neilo, Mumblefratz, ElWhop0, and many others, evolved into what is now known as the Metaverse League.

As the discussion continued, this new concept led the players to nominate Neilo to become the first Commissioner of this new league, and to help structure it.  Shortly thereafter, on July 13th, 2007, he announced the very first round of the MVL- a medium map, tech victory.

Originally 15 players, the MVL has ballooned at some points to a height of 36 players, and has had an average level of about 22.

The MVL has had Nine Official Rounds, with the first six being handled by Neilo, as Commissioner.  After Round 6 he stepped down, and Silverbeacher was elected as Commissioner, who has run Rounds 7-9. Silverbeacher also administered the Special Bonus Round that took place after Round 8.

The MVL has also has had two major Drafts, where teams have been able to select new players.

Now one year in, the MVL is still going strong, having just incorporated Twilight of the Arnor into its playing field, and added a number of new players.   As the One Year Anniversary occurs, the MVL administration prepares for Round 10 and the continuation of the League.

There are a few individuals that deserve special recognition for their help and contributions to the Metaverse League:

Neilo:  The first MVL Commissioner, and then later Captain of the Eternal Villainy.  He took the bull by the horns right at the start, and helped form a coherent and working league.

Ghostwes: The person that started it all.  It may not have been exactly what he imagined, but he was still very proud to be a part of it.

Mumblefratz: Few players can bring the knowledge and just pure gravitas to this game that Mumblefratz was able to do.  Uncalculable hours of fleshing out ideas, rules, game strategies, and so much more, made Mumblefratz, eventual Rulekeeper of the MVL, one of its most important and valued players.

Kryo: Not actually a participant in the MVL, but everyone's favorite Stardock employee was always there to answer questions on various Metaverse, or Kryo's very own AltMeta, issues.  His help, albeit indirectly, of supporting the MVL has been of great benefit.

The Players:  Thank you to everyone that has participated in the MVL, either since the beginning, new, or just in-between.  Without you, there would be no League.

We invite you to come and check out the Metaverse League and participate with us.

-Silverbeacher,
Commissioner of the Metaverse League-

Congrats.

I've been part of the league since round 4. It certainly has improved my game. I now regularly play at suicidal. Something I probably would not have done if not for the help and suggestions of MVL members. My thanks to all.

A memorable round for me was posting my first, and only, ZYW.

Well done to the MVL and all it players...past and present. :CONGRAT:

Thanks for your kind words SB but without the support of the players i would never have been able to get the ball rolling. Starting the MVL was easy compared to keeping it going, for that i thank all the participants who keep the MVL ticking over each month.

Here's to another great year!!!

OH, memorable moments, I believe in Round 1 and 2, Mumble having to delete some of my more colorful language from our private forms at the Core. And going from Normal to Suicidal, without the MVL I would never be at the level I can "SOMETIMES" play.

Are you interested in signing up FireNight?

If only you had stayed on Team D the whole last season Jeff, the final standings would probably have looked much different... But since you are on another team this season, feel free to disappear for a couple months again if the mood strikes you!

Although I didn't know this league existed and hence did not participate, I also feel that interacting with you guys has really boosted my ability to play this game well, quite possibly better than I ever thought I could. And for that, I salute you.

Round 10 is just around the corner. It is never too late to join in the fun :)

It has been a fun romp that is for sure. The great interaction between teamates eclipses things like being in rival empires and really lets you experience many different peoples views of the game. I've learned more and more with each incarnation of teams I've been on and look forward to continuing while striving to get our team to the top :)

Happy anniversary, MVL! :CONGRAT:

Congrats and thanks to all who were mentioned above and let's not forget the inspiration for the league. Wyndstar ran the original tournaments that eventually led to the birth of the MVL.

Best of luck for another banner year! :)
