I do not believe that personal attacks have a place on JoeUser. I feel that it is detrimental for the service of everyone if people cannot work past their differences, or take it elsewhere, assuming that the other party agrees. I have a place to go to attack me, so it's not necessary to ruin other people's days by making them read attacks here. If they care, they can go there.

When you attack somebody on JU, not only do you violate the Terms of Service (which you did read, didn't you?), you also detract from everyone's experience. Not only that, but it opens up a whole can of worms. You look as stupid as whoever you're attacking (if you succeed, if not, then you look more stupid). Not only that, but it's like smoking, then extingushing your cigarette butt on somebody's doorframe. It's just plain disrespectful and messy. And they're your host, too.

So, quite frankly, take it outside.

You can avoid the personal attacks - dont allow commenting. JU is not only a personal blog but a community. And other than in fairy tales, no community is perfectly harmonious and pleasant. So you can restrict commenting on your blog, not comment on others, and yes, then avoid it. As the TOU clearly state that users cannot flame users by name in forum articles (comments are a gray area).

But as this is not a fairy tale, dont expect not to be flamed. Just wear asbestos underdaks.

Some people just can't get along with others and that's the way it is here on JU.

It's the dark side of the beast that's in every one of us.  

I personally find it most unpleasant reading people attacking one another, not to mention it tends to ruin an otherwise  good discussion.  

DrGuy gave some good advice...there are ways to handle it.

One way to resolve the problem is by simply not responding in kind....My mom would say turn the other cheek....surely, you can dig that!

Seriously, there is a fundamental and - to most contributors - obvious difference between suffering a 'personal attack' and merely having your opinions, claims, logic, thought processes etc. called into question. You need to learn what this is, and not go scampering off shrieking hysterical charges of rule book violation each and every time your precious world view is challenged.

Personal attacks have always had a place on JU. I can't even remember a time when there weren't a few floating around.

You might not like it, but most JUers seem to enjoy a bit of personal conflict every now and again. The best thing to do if you're not a fan is to ignore it.

LOL, leave it to the resident crybaby to complain about personal attacks. Of course his hypocrisy is amazing when he criticizes people for detracting others from the topic of the article when doing these personal attacks all the while he responds to every single one with his own brand of attacks.

Take your current religious buddy's advice and just ignore, or block your articles from comments. Otherwise, grow up.

Oh, btw, these TOS rules you keep blabbering about, it's up to the discretion of the admin(s) to decide whether your complaints are valid. Those rules, as mentioned by them before, or a guideline and not an absolute (like your mentality). So they will handle the complaints as they see fit in accordance with their understand and interpretation of thes TOS rules.

If the admins of this site were to take the TOS rules word for word they may as well shut the site down since they would probably have to ban most of their members. But I can't expect anything less ridiculous and ludicrous coming from you.

Attacking an opponent's character, or his motives for believing something usually occur when the "attacker" can't refute or disprove a point made in the debate, discussion or argument.

I enjoy a good fight. I'll say it like all heck. I play violent games for a reason.

You have no clue what a personal attack is, btw. It's not childish name calling. It's finding someone's weakness and exploiting the hell out of it. It's catching them in a lie and making sure EVERYONE knows about it. It's sticking your finger in their emotional wounds as often as possible...

I thought that was politics. I find name calling highly offensive, because it is mere slander without a weakness. That's why I hate it so much.

I happen to be very good at that sort of thing, and people loved to see it because I mostly limited my attacks to those who richly deserved it.

I may deserve it. I wouldn't be that surprised, but I'm not that great at doing it.

Stop yer crying. If you can't handle the occasional 'doo-doo head' then you're in the wrong place. We aren't going to change for you, so learn to live with it or get the hell out of here and go play in Romper Room where everyone's nice to each other, you effete, testicularly challenged little pansy.

That's sweat, not tears. Darn 110 degree room. I can handle occasional insults, but not insult-after-insult meaningless verbal assault. I have a place to go if you wanna do that.

You also forgot when the opponent is pigheaded, hardheaded, close-minded and also a crybaby. It isn't always about refuting the other person opinion you no. You also have to admit some people are just to stubborn to even take an idea into consideration. Now while i would rather avoid the name calling because I usually want to debate a topic, even if it's a heated debate, some people just deserve to be insulted because they are too thick-headed to be making any kind of argument or debate.

I want my points to be contradicted. you fail to mention that they are not always wrong. If I wanted to write to myself, or only to specific people, I wouldn't write here. I wasn't born yesterday. If I thought everyone thinks like me, I would be gravely wrong. I've been over that before.

Regardless what you may wanna think and believe, yor opinions are not absiolute because you are nothing but mere humans, just like the rest of us. Only God is absolute and as humans prone to mistakes because we are not perfect, our own opinions can be questioned by ourselves from time to time.

I've tried to argue that my opinions are not absolute. I can be convinced. Though I find the second-highest on the feeding chain is anything but "mere". God is absolute, and you notice how I mainly argue to point out what He said, which I have total faith in. I have opinions, and I question them often. I merely need a large amount of information to change an opinion, because mine work for me.

Welcome to the real world. Reality and life...is what it is.  Not fair.  In my time here, I have seen many things, stupid arguments over nothing. Name calling you couldn't believe, continuously bringing stuff up from the past / dead...only to name a small few. 

Eh. 


This is what you get.  As far as Terms of Service...well thats about as good as a box of poo if you ask anyone around here.  As you will spend more time on here, youll notice more and more of a bias on various subjects, beliefs...etc.  Thats fine, this site is owned by a corporation and from what has been posted before by Brad, it was not intended to be a blog site per se, more of a website to post about all his games and whoopidy doos. We are just a by-product.

But yeah, people pull all sorts of crap on here...daily.  But you can either ignore it, or make it worse by continuing.  Youll also notice over time that some people apparently live off of this website.  And most times, when someone forms a bad opinion of you, that stays around forever. 

It is what it is.  I got to the point where I would write tons (LW refers to them as diatribes) in my replies, defending my positions, thoughts...etc.  And then I realized that this site was taking up waaaayyy too much of my time when it could be better spent by staring at the Wyoming grass growing in winter.
