Real benefits of ToA?

Real benefits of ToA?

Hi, I do not have the ToA expansion but had a brief chance to play it last weekend and I must say I see most of the changes as a move backwards. I'm sure I've missed some changes, and maybe did not have enough time to appreciate those that I did notice, so I'd be very interesting in hearing what exactly in your opinion makes it a better game over GalCiv gold.

Things I did notice:
- New tech trees - they seem to limit the number of techs each Civ has, e.g. Terrans can only use beam weapons, which takes 90% fun out of ship designing... hardly a good change.
-new ground combat interface seems much less immercing than the previous one.
-game seems much less stable (though it may be a fault of my friend's computer that I played on)

Ansury. We get it man. You REALLY feel disapointed, and REALLY don't like ToA. Ever heard the expression beating a dead horse? Let it go man, find something happy in your life and smile for God's sake. Tell you what, if Brad posts here that he won't give you a refund then perhaps we can take up a collection for your cause. I'll throw 10 dollars in the pot just to get you to stop. And I'm poor

Nah I'll stop before that happens. Besides if people would stop irrationally defending poorly implemented non-optional features by saying "if you don't like it, tough", I'd barely register on anyone's radar. Sure my criticism is blunt and to the point (..sometimes), but someone has to point things out. I will stop insulting the devs now at least, it is just fun, but I guess it could be upsetting to some. But if we can't take at least the constructive criticism here, and would rather flame and censor it, it'll be hard to find flaws that make the people that don't post to forums decide not to buy GC3. (Not that I wouldn't.)

And not to start a flame war but...

I really don't get how diplomacy was 'enhanced' by tech trees. Lots more tech trading? That doesn't seem very fun. (I play with it disabled by the way.) That's not really an enhancement to me. Find some of my diplomacy related posts to see suggestions for real enhancements. It's really just a matter of adding new options to the diplomacy screens.

And I don't hate the game, although I think I do hate the expansion. I'm trying to give it a chance but I'll probably go back to DL. It's very strange - I've been slightly disappointed by expansions often, but never to the point where I'd rather play a game without. eek

I really should go get a refund, but it's probably not worth the trouble. I've never heard of getting a refund for a downloaded game anyway.

If it's been less than three months since you bought the game, you can get a 75% refund if you're not actually having technical issues preventing you from playing.

I'm not sure who visitored your account, but assumably you would have received a warning when it was done. If you continue to circumvent that (Visitor status is generally temporary, if we mean someone to be gone for good, it would be done differently), I'll be forced to take action.

Well that's nice but AFAIK I never saw anything from anyone with a Stardock tag, had no PMs, and see nothing mentioned in the profile. It's been a pretty long time so I just figured there was a chance that it wasn't a block, and maybe just a bug, since I never heard anything. (These forums are a little buggy for me and behave rather weird.) I'm ready for a vacation from GC and it's forums anyway, so whatever.
