Some themes do not come with enough icons

I was very disappointed yesterday when I purchased Sunny day and found it only came with 53 icons -- hardly any file icons.  I really wish that there was a full preview of all icons included in the theme or at least the number of icons.  I don't consider a theme a "full theme" if there aren't enough icons to to change the icon package.  The icons in this package are beautiful - I just wish there were more of them - especially for the Stardock applications.

Iconsets are very painstaking and time consuming to make I will say that and most SD icons are of better quality than most around but it does seem that some kind of uniform quantification would be fair...or to have exact specs... pre-purchase.

Thank you for your response. Sorry I posted this twice -- but I did not see it after I posted the first time. I hope in the future they will at least state the amount of icons that are in the package. Liquidox and the Pirate both have large icon packages and are shown in the screenshots. Spring has a lot too -- but you would not know since they are not shown as samples in the screen shots. Who could I contact, prior to purchasing themes in the future, regarding the size of the iconpackage?

Speaking from a non skinners viewpoint, if we get into saying that there has to be a certain number of icons or it just doesn't meet the "standard" we just may be doing more harm then good.

For instance, if the overall theme just doesn't work with some icons we would be telling the skinner they have to make them anyways. Folks like vStyler would have to comment on that. Artistic or skinning talents should not have to made to fit in a box. Should there be minimum standards if you are selling them, sure.

Since we are talking about MyDolors I see no reason why the price of the Skin/Theme can't be different or adjusted depending on the amount of items or Goodies included.

If I'm paying for a MyColors Skin or Theme I'm looking more at the overall design and not what and how many extras are included.

Just my opinion here.  ;)

Any number of icons will work with any theme Philly.. Not skinning the full set is going to leave 'gaps' in the overall theme, this is expecially true when it comes to file formats. I personally will\ can not use an IP that isn't complete... it defies the very reason to customize.

I'm not really sure what quantity is considered a full set and of course there will always be 3rd party apps and file formats that can't be totally covered but I'm pretty sure its slightly over 53.

I agree, the Rockstar icons for instance are awesome but theres only 52 of them in the IP. I was hoping for a set with as many as Pirate, Cosmos..etc There are many filetype icons that aren't skinned and it really does bug me.

For a payware sets though? I would hope they'd include at least more than 52 icons.

From someone who has done a few Icon Packages, it takes a good 100+ icons to do a 'full set' of icons for IP. Its nearly insane if you think about it. A set with 50+ is a good set and will cover most items. But you have to also remember there are alot of programs with thier own file types and so forth that may never see the light of day on your 'average' persons computer. Its a judgment call and time consideration on the skinners part just how much they want to do.

I think a complete inventory of what's in a theme would be a good thing (skins, substyles, walls, gadgets, icons, etc.).

Having tried to make and modify a few 256x256 icons for Vista I understand that they are not what they used to be back in XP if you want them to look good and complete.  They are a ton of work!  53 master icons are a significant investment of time and as the number of icons goes up so should the cost.

Technically, a full icon pack is only 26 icons.  There are 26 core icons in Windows that you will find in every pack.  Past that, if the artist puts more in, there will be more in the theme.  If we standardize it, then that wouldn't happen.

Icons are the most time consuming part of a theme.  The theme would have to cost more if we required more icons per theme.  It takes as much time to make the icon pack as it does all the other elements in the theme combined.
