Wallpaper Madness

I am not a trouble maker

I have removed this, it was wrong to begin with. I am sorry for not realizing that at first. I have made an apology to the artist.

Different moderators may look at the queue at different times adn judge differently.  Especially in the "pure art" wallpaper gallery.  Sometimes it's luck of the draw.  On average . . it works out.

I would sumise... that one passed and one didnt....further more to add to this... the one that didn't, didnt because it didn't, the one that did, did.

Well now that weve cleared this up. Im off to run for a gov office

Both have the same tonal value (as I see it) but in my mind top grey has the edge over green cause’ it has a ‘centre’ making it a tad more interesting!

If you want people to check out your stuff in your personal gallery, put a link on every submission to your WC page. That way, you have a 50/50 chance that more of your stuff will get seen. And in this case, whichever wall made it to the gallery, edit the description and put a link to the other one...then resubmit. Don't change anything but the description...don't reload the graphics, it won't go back through moderation.  ;)

I'll never figure out why some make it into the main gallery while others get pp'ed.

I read once that generaly if they get rated by the mods at 2 1/2 stars, they make it into the main gallery, but I've seen walls rated lower and still go on the main gallery. Dunno.....guess maybe it's like Zubaz said "luck of the draw".

You can either try to figure it out or do like me; shrug and stop uploading wallpapers to wincustomize  ;)

Good idea. I won't let this sort of thing keep me from trying. I will still upload them, so what if they go to PPO. I will get better in time and that will happen less. I am trying to take the advice of the great ZubaZ and branch out a little. So far, no luck with walls, WBs, RCs, or docks.  X-(

Actually, I find the grey center distracting. It looks like it was just kind of thrown in and doesn't compliment the wallpaper at all. The green one is very usable and simplistic in a pleasant way. IMHO.. which is why I'm not a mod. lol.

I'm confused. The top one says the author is HAPTORK in the main gallery?

The green is Jims, the grey is Haptorks, the grey must be in the main gallery and Jim is wondering why his didn't make it since it's, in his opinion, about the same quality. That's as near as I can figure anyway. Give him a personal page elite award.

Correct, and Jim just had 2 more wall sets added to his PPO. I have a PP Award already, liked the joke. And I will be good and not try to cause a stink. Wouldn't do any good anyway. But I must say that IMO, all 4 of my recent wall sets are of higher quality than alot of walls that made it to the gallery. It reminds me of the inCognito wall by Buzz that was, IMO, a very high quality wall that didn't make it. I know I am in good company, but it seems as though the walls get passed or failed purely on personal preference, rather than quality. I am , and always have been, a lover of guitar. I don't like Chet Atkins' music, but he is very good at what he does, so I rate him high. I would not give him a low rate, just because I don't like his style, because, for his style, he is a master. Just a thought.  :(

Wall moderation is a fickle beast.  For example, many, many fractal walls go straight to personal pages or rejected because while they may be fine enough, they take very little skill or time to create, and after a while . . . all look the same.  Maybe WC isn't the place to upload those, eh?   ;p

The walls moderation is probably the most personal of the galleries.  It's not like a wallpaper can not work like a WB or DX widget.

The walls I speak of are not fractals, which seem to be popular. It shouldn't be about how much skill is needed to produce the wall, or how long it takes. That's absurd! It should be about QUALITY and usability. All the mods should moderate by the same guidlines so that there is uniformity in what is passed, and what is failed. BTW, if I knew what was wrong with them, could I correct them and reup? Someone suggested that they would not go back thru moderation.

The fractal situation was just an example of why wall moderation is different.  The fact is that WC isn't a wallpaper site . . it's a skinning site and walls are a part of that and should be included (but maybe to a lesser degree).

With skins for WB, any mod can check for the same things: Does it work?  Is everything skinned?  Is it usable?  And finally does it look good?  For walls it's mostly: Is is a valid resolution?  Is it usable?  Does it look good?

Walls, by definition, are more about personal taste (the artist's, the moderator's, and the user's).  That's why most are reviewed by more than one mod and there's more discussion about them (and why they sometimes take longer to go through moderation).

You know, it's not fair to single out the work of someone else, who has done nothing wrong, for comparison. That image should be removed to protect the person involved.

This thread is disappointing. It's not what I expect from a WinCustomize Apprentice  :NOTSURE:

It shouldn't be about how much skill is needed to produce the wall, or how long it takes. That's absurd!

IF a wall is overly simple to create/reproduce the issue is that it is VERY likely to be repeated.

One of the 'old rules of wall moderation' [sins] was called 'the blue swirlie'.  They were a no-no, not because someone didn't like blue.....or swirls....but in fact because most people prefer walls in blue ....and a 'swirl' is about the simplest 'filter'/function you can apply to an image.

We get a few per week submitted....and if they're lucky they get as far as PP.

Fractals are essentially point-and-click-go-make-a-coffee-come-back-and-upload-the-result...and can be 'made' as quickly as your CPU allows.  Some look OK, actually...but most are repetitive and are only slight deviations from the default/predictable.

In order to save people from having to wade through a bottomless sea of repetition in the gallery there'll be a tendency to redirect the 'flood' to the Personal Pages.

Re fractals....I remember my seeing the first one....and being amazed by the mathematics that it represented/generated...that the closer you focus in/enlarge it....the more it's repeated.  Did I rush off and declare it/they make brilliant walls?....er....no....;)

When wanting to make comparisons like this thread please avoid dragging a fellow member into it for no good reason.

Questions on skin comparisons are best done by PM to the moderator of that gallery and not in the forums. By singling out member in the comparison it just creates ill will, which I‘m sure was not your intention.

Being stuck in Sacramento for a month is having an effect on me.. I must be too close to the Govenator.

I was under the impression both walls were of the same creator, my bad. Yes tis improper to use another artist's items for comparison unless they have offered consent.

I agree, and I will remove it if I have the ability. I like the other person's work. I just wanted to try to point out that I think WC needs a better method of wallpaper evaluation. Just my opinion. Thanx to all who have answered this post. I will not speak of it again.  :p

I agree, did not see that, I will issue an apology to the artist, who does very good work IMO. I am sorry. It was not my intention to do him harm.
