Unsatisfied with explosions

This game plays on an epic scale. My problem is that when you zoom all the way in from this epic scale to individual ships, the explosion garphics can be disappointing. I don't know if it's only a bug on my comp, or if it's meant to be this way, but when a ship dies it just disappears and then an explosion happens in it's place a fraction of a second later. Now I know this looks like a small thing, but in a game where you are able to zoom in all the way to a single ship and watch it fight you might as well expect a decent explosion graphic to happen. If this is not just a problem in my machine specs than I really think it's something to look into in a future patch. They could at least make the explosion happen the same time the ship disappears and not after.

It's being updated in the 1.1 patch.

That, and there are a number of mods which address the general blandness of certain special effects ingame. So check out those as well.

Download Bailknight's mod. It fixes this exact complaint.

Lets hope Ironclad can match his effort with 1.1. :D

I like the WLD + Bailknight mod.

But either will work fine and be a VAST improvement!

I can only say this again: Check out Bailknight's spectacular mod! :D
It's worth the installing-hassle.

omg finally i'm glad i'm not the only one that agrees with this. tnx for bringing this up Szkeptik, i think that it should have better sound lower the tone of upgrades and better up the metal hit effects and explosions. i have read the update and it should have better explosions but its all about the sound that would make the explosions feel more alive.

please IC have this fixed immidiately. maybe you guys should use sound effects from war movies or official worldwar battle explosions to help get the idea on how an explosion should sound like. tnx

Can someone tell me if these mods have a impact on FPS? I'd rather have not as pretty and smooth, than the other way around.

As I understand, most of the mods try to use the same amount of graphical assets as vanilla Sins. So there really shouldn't be much of a performance drop, if at all.

the only time Ive had a problem was with baliknights shields, they flared up more and my PC just couldnt take it...

Eh? That doesn't make sense. I was the one who first figured out how to "fix" the shields, and it's just an opacity alteration to the shader. There are no other changes... it just makes the already visible (very faint) effect more visible. So I don't see how that could stress your system any more than it already was...

Anyway, I recommend BailKnight's mod as well, and there is very little performance impact and fights look really good!
As for explosions themselves, either during the next week or sometime at the end of August I should finish my Volumetric Explosions mod which makes the explosions use a 3D system complete with disintegration particles... performance impact minimal and you get a LOT more visceral and kinetic battles. Stuff flying everywhere... so you might want to check that out too. Everyone to whom I showed the test battle loved it. ;)

Ah, why talk about it - you can get a little preview on the ModDB page here. Scroll down to see.

I found the explosions pretty good but have noticed that oddity as well. I don't know why its so hard for most games to have realistic explosions but at least Sins has great planetary explosions. The cap ship's also look amazing when they go up in smoke as well.

explosions right now must and will be improved soon, only average explosion = a cap ship blwoing up, the detail i do like tough = debry, just pay some attnetion to the spot whre u lost your/ owned an enemy fleet lotsa space jump flying by (tough only 3/4 types?????)

theres alot of mods, unfortunatly not everone online takes the time to activate a specific mod just to join my game....... it takes alot of planning to have a big game with Bailknights mod running.... the mod = awesome, i'm just confused why stardock didnt just incorporate his mod instead of making all new stuff with the chance of making it less-then-bailknight :/???
