So Dissappointed...

Galaxy falling apart?

It always starts off nicely with relative peace, lots of prosperity, but you begin to see an increasing Dominator presence and then, in humanities worst conflict and most dangerous period, things begin to collapse. The Dominators claim 30% of the galaxy and are growing in power with local forces unable to resist and counter-attacks sparse and ineffective, things look bleak. I return home to discover my home star system, Sol, to be plagued by pirates, brigands, and other nefarious characters who shoot down my co-pilot (himself a reformed mercenary). Worst of all this spread of piracy is supported by the Galactic Council...

Local militaries turn a blind eye to traders being robbed daily, innoccent freighters being destroyed mercilessly, and the growth of this trend. In fact, it would appear that local planets even support their pirates because when you do stop them they put a bounty on your head.

I fear that a dark age is begining and that I alone cannot stop it...

(This is all occuring in my galaxy and I was just curious if everyone else has this happen after about 10-13 years and/or if anyone has any strategies for stopping it. I'm really tempted to just recruit a band of mercs and fly through the galaxy enforcing my own order but I know that will be difficult, dangerous, and expensive.

Also, does anyone know how new stations are started? As in what influences their creation or positioning? Are there any actions I can take to promote more military bases and less pirate stations?)

Who elected the idiots we find in the Galactic Council and where can I find them!?

It all depends on what difficulty you play at.. If you play the game on Normal, at least in my game, I'm about 20-25 years in, and the Cololition have clear control over the Galaxy, only 2 Dominator systems are left, and those are the ones controled by Blazer and Terron..

However i did hear that the harder the difficulty the more of a chance the dominators have to kick the crap out of the coalition. As for the Pirates stuff, that has always bugged me too, you go out of your way to stop those Pirates, killing any ships they see fit, and by doing so, you lose faction with that Pirates race, and that has always bugged me, cause their pirates i thought!, lol...

The way new stations are started is by going to a bussiness center and asking to invest in a particular kind of station, unfourntly you have no choice where the station will get placed.

This has always annoyed me too, and even more so because the programmers haven't even bothered to add a couple of lines to the stroryline which would have explained it somehow.
Like "the pirates are providing goverments with vital info/resources etc. and that's why they (the local goverments) have to allow the pirates to do what they do".
