Culture and Allegiance question

Here I am again, asking another question about Sins. Before I do though, I'd like to throw out a thanks to everyone who answered my previous questions.

So, what does Allegiance actually accomplish? I know culture has bonuses (different for each Civ), as well as raising allegiance. So, does allegiance accomplish anything besides making it harder (and how does it make it harder?) for the enemy to take over your planet?

Thanks!

Heh, hi again!

I believe allegiance also gives you a passive shield regeneration boost when your forces are stationed at that planet. I actually didn't know that the bonus was different for each race, however...

Also, if your allegiance is not at 100%, your planet will not produce taxes to its fullest extent, leading to a slow dropoff in profit as your planets get further from your capital.

Plus your culture prevents the enemy's culture lines from spreading to your planets, killing your economy and maybe even causing a revolt! (in which case you lose the planet entirely).

You won't notice its effects in short games, but in longer ones it makes a difference. Especially if you have to travel between stars, because culture doesn't spread between systems (at least I think) so it's a pain when you always get low income from planets outside your home system.

That is prettymuch it, though!

Allegiance has no affect on combat, nor does it have any affect on the enemy's ability to take your planets (although culture does, which directly influences allegiance). To put it simply, allegiance represents the percent income (credits and resources) that your planet produces. Allegiance below 100% means the planet is producing less than it ideally should, and vice versa for above 100%. Culture boosts allegiance up to 10% (additional +10% for Advent if you research Allure of the Unity), and allegiance drops based on distance from your capital planet in # of jumps and under the influence of enemy culture.

Culture on the other hand, does affect combat. Provided you do the research, culture boosts:
damage output for Vasari
shield mitigation for Advent
antimatter regeneration for TEC

Also, the Advent Deliverance Engine (culture cannon) provides a damage boost in addition to the mitigation boost from culture. While allegiance doesn't have any affect on enemy colonization, after your planet is purged, the culture lingers for some time. If the culture is too high, the enemy cannot colonize, so it provides a time buffer in which you can counter attack. This also applies to you if you attack an enemy planet with high culture. You will be unable to colonize until the culture dissipates.
