A Planatery Battle Mission, one in particular..

Hey,

Think this is a new mission, so wondering if anyone has done this, its the one where the battle takes place on an actual Navy Ship at sea. With you , against all 3 sides.  All I have to say is WOW!, lol, I get slaughtered almost every single time, just way too much bots come at me..

Anyone else has had problems with this mission if they have encountered it? I'm usually pretty good in the plantery battles, got a good cookie cutter robot strategy, basically a 2 Launcher-2 PLasma Robot about 3-5 of those with about 3 healers (Robots with all 4 slots as repairers), can hold a good line, but its more for wide open space, which of course is what most of the plantery battles are, so wonder how exactly people have approach this one if they've gotten it ..

Let me know!, hehe

Wow, so no one has encountered this? ...

Then i guess, what are some general tips people use for their plantery battles, what kind of battle setups, etc?

I usually use 4 launchers/mortar/blocker with 4 repair/locator build with antigrav legs. I have not played the map your talking about yet but have played one where I had two opponents in a triangle who were placed extremely close to me on a small map. I waited until one side made a move to the other cpu opponent then swooped into the attacker's base. With an additional side I would do the same maneuver and leave no robots on defense. You can usually pump out 1-2 robots if an enemy starts to make a move towards you and that combined with your defense turrets is usually enough to hold them off.

The only problem with your robot build I see is the 2 plasmas. I believe plasmas require alot of plasma which limits the number you can build since repair also requires alot of plasma. Going strictly missiles you use a minimal amount of plasma and I usually drag my group of missile bots backwards while they shoot at the enemy with the repair bots tagging along. There is no penalty for running while shooting and using this tactic you've negated alot of the weapons the cpu tacks on that lack range.

Actually, they'll hold a good line in a constricted area to as long as you position them carefully then instruct them not to move. To do this, move them into place, then issue the "stop" command. This will force them to remain in place rather than rushing out to meet oncoming attackers. A line of 2 or 3 of these guys along with some turrets and then 2 or 3 repairers behind will be a wall like defence. You'll have to make the occasional replacement, but the enemy will be losing out a lot more and they'll eventually deplete their resources reserves, at which point you can go on the offensive. Locators are good for these defensive walls since they can obliterate the enemy before they even get in range. Also, launchers rather than plasmas - they do just as much damage and they have a small area of effect damage capability as well, particularly useful in constricted areas.

I also agree with all the above poster's points.

I got to the map and your talking about and it is quite difficult. It's the first map I've played that I have not beaten in 15-25 min. The starting location is absolutely terrible, as your literally right in the middle of 3 cpu factions in a very confined space. The two closest resources and your base have no buildable turrets. I can take out the blue faction reasonably quick but the red faction always beats the green about the same time and eventually rushes my factory which is very difficult to defend.

I'm thinking the key is to slow red down and keep green alive while taking out blue. I think I'll try building bomb bots and periodically sending them after red when they start attacking green. The other option is to simply destroy the middle resource to deny the cpu the two turrets since it is extremely difficult to hold onto given the ramp placement to the resource.

I would also use firewalls on your combat bots. The cpu uses stunners and bomb bots on this map. Keep your repair bots up on the ramp near your base; with a locator they can usually heal the combat bots below them. This will keep them out of range of the bomb blast.

Very Interesting tips..

On the Wall of Defense, ya, on big layout maps where I already have a ton of resources, the 2 Launcher, 2 Plasma is an amazing combo, as it forms a great wall like ya said. I remember encountering that Triangle map, and I basically held the two sides of the triangle at bay, and as soon as red took over the green side, quickly ran in and took it myself. The amazing part was, it kept on coming at from the left side, where I had 5 Bots of 2 Launchers-2 Plasmas and 3 Repairers, and not to mention a nice little turret in the way as well.. that pretty kept Red in check, until I slowly elimiated Blue, then Red..

But ya, I pretty much gave up on that sea ship mission.. And at the moment, I'm really down to only 2 dominator held territories, held by the big two, Blazer and Teron, so that may be awhile before I can get them, as I'm really trying to push for the Scientific Unique ship, I believe I'm at about 330 or so dominator kills, so almost there, and like about 1.2 million credits..

However, this is of course on normal, my next game I'll up the difficulty to Hard and see how that goes.. However, I'll probably keep the plantery battles at Medium, hehe :)
