FreeSpace2 SCP Project Continues

FreeSpace2, the hit Space Sim, gets some new revamps

The FreeSpace Source Code Project continues to update and debug their FS2 Open application. New updates include minor bug fixes, combat table changes, AI balancing, and typo corrections in-game. For those who don't know, FreeSpace2 was originally released in 1999, and received dozens of major gaming awards, despite not selling well. In 2004, the source code was released to the public, allowing for major modding and campaign creation with updated tech. Some of the major updates have included much improved graphics, improved weapons damage, and some truly great campaigns that rely on the SCP's innovation and moddability. You may download this incredible game at the link provided in the article. It is a free and legal download, and it is well worth it to get all the extras. This would be a perfect oppurtunity for old players to check in on an old favorite. Also, they are always looking for new team members.

I loved Freespace 2... I even found a version on ebay and have it installed on my home PC. The external link you provided is not working.

Its kinda difficult to "navigate" (as per the norm with anything opensource).

But there are links to a few projects that are based upon the open freespace engine.

Yeah, I have the original FreeSpace2 retail, minus the manual. It goes for quite a bit on eBay, or so I've heard. Fixed the link, thanks for the heads-up.

Freespace was possibly the best Simulation game I've ever played and one of the finest made. In the Sequel it improved on virtually every part of the original game and made it even better.

I'm very thankful to Hard-Light for making the mod and it goes to show how a great game it still is and what it could of been like if they updated the graphics. Its a hefty download, but well worth the wait.

If you do get the game, play the retail version without the extra shaders and added stuff first. Than you will really give that much more respect to what these guys did and are still doing.

Yeah, but some of them require the SCP version, which you can download here. Use Firefox or Netscape when downloading, because IE7 seems to download it in the wrong format.
