Kudos to the Devs

Some much-needed Friday thanks

After seeing some of the less-than-stellar reviews for TPM2008 pop up on metacritic and read about some of the problems users had been having with the game on these forums, I wanted to take a minute to thank the devs for their hard work on the game and all the time they have spent working with the users on here who are having issues.

As a developer myself (although not in the game industry) I can understand how it can seem like the only feedback you get is negative because only those having problems take the time to voice their opinions.  Well I've had the game for a week now, have had no problems with it (or Impulse, knock-on-wood), and have even been able to play a LAN game against my girlfriend (even if she did make me play as a Republican...).  The artistic design is delightful, the humor is enjoyable, and as someone else pointed out, it is easy to pick up the game and play for a few minutes when I have some free time (especially since I don't need to track down the CD to play), all of this for less than half the price of a full tank of gas.

I don't mean to marginalize those who have had problems with the game, but even those folks should appreciate that there have been 3 or 4 developers (as well as the CEO of Stardock), on these forums constantly gathering data and working to find a resolution to allow everyone to get the game working, all for a "budget title".  I'm also a Civilization IV player, and it has taken us over 6 months to get an official patch to fix a glaring display bug that makes the game almost unplayable for new players.  Here, not only do bugs get fixed quickly, but the devs take part in the discussions even when users are at their most frustrated.

So thanks to everybody at Stardock for your hard work and long hours.  I'm looking forward to seeing what new candidates, issues, and scenarios get slipped into future patches once you've caught up on your sleep :)

Yeah, thanks Chris :)  Coming off of the GalCiv series (where we're loved) it's been a hard transition into PM2008 - a game which we're all pretty proud of, but getting a lot more flak from all sides.

Glad you're liking it, and feel free to make any suggestions for future updates :)

I think that sums it up well. I have had no probelms on my nearly 4 year old laptop. As I said before previous customer care is the reason I felt confident in buying this game. It's not easy to feel confident on even the highest rated games, like Medieval Total War 2 as a good example. As a fellow Civ4 player, I highly suggest you check out GalCiv 2, if you havent. I havent even bought the amazing Twilight of Arnor expansion pack, and I have yet to tire of the original, and first expansion pack. Even though I bought the game on release in 2006. It did not take long for Galatic Civilization 2 to replace Civ4 and all of its expansions.

Thanks for the Kudos! It's good to get posts like this mixed in with the people who are having problems. Helps the morale..

Well I've had the game for a week now, have had no problems with it

Both great news, could you guys head over to this thread and post your PC specs?  I'd like to get a general idea of what a typical user of PM2008 has as a PC (whether they have problems or not).

Thanks,
~C

Was planning on it as soon as I get home from work. I can't play your games here, but I can read your forums :)
