What's new in TPM2008 version 1.03?

1.03 Change log

Version 1.03 is now available on Impulse!

For those of you who haven't hung out on the GalCiv2 forums, we like to post a list of changes in our updates.  I've tried to keep the technobabble to a minimum. :)

To stave the most common question asked after a game is updated, yes, save games should still work from the previous versions.

+ NEW:  60 Seconds Interview Forum

+ TWEAK: Added code to increase the amount of scaling done to map objects once they surpass a certain threshold.
+ Added a slider in the options window to control this.
+ 1 means smaller icons with more objects, five means larger size; five is the default.
+ Added "MapIconScaleRate" to the Prefs file; this is currently in the range of 1 (smallest icons) to 5 (largest and default size/scale).

+ TWEAK: Added help text “use arrow keys to move snapshot” to snapshot view port frame

+ FIXED: If for some reason the working directory is not correct (bad shortcut link, etc), TPM will now attempt to correct the working directory to avoid crashing or other problems due to not finding files

+ FIXED: Activated code for throttling frame rates to prevent gfx cards from overheating
+ This is enabled by default and can be disabled by changing the “GfxThrottleFrameRate” value in prefs.ini. There is no option to do it in game because it's generally a bad idea to turn this off.

+ FIXED: Made a change to the candidate details window that would give a better (and oft-updated) number for a national issue score.

+ FIXED: The issues that a player has custom set for their candidate are now modified by the default party stance for the same issues. Now if a player goes through and sets every issue to a small value (1-2) the issues won't all be 1 or 2 in game, but rather these values will just be added to the default party value.
+ This also fixes an issue where newly-created candidates would have no issue scores in games.

+ FIXED: Removed the [-5,5] cap on default positions and default importance; this has been changed to [-10,10] which is the actual default range.

+ FIXED: A bug where the default issue score was not being updated upon a player's first speech/ad.

+ FIXED: Hardware cursor mouse option should now save to prefs.ini so that it will retain its value the next time you start the game.

+ FIXED: The candidate details window now shows a candidate's national stance on a whole bunch of issues.

+ FIXED: A problem where the default value for a candidate's stance on an issue would be discarded the moment an ad was taken our or a speech was given. The default value is now added upon for newly-campaigned issues.

+ FIXED: Bug where interview responses did not replace the || characters with newline characters

Going to be out of town for a bit, might be able to sneak into my apartment tomorrow if i'm lucky to test this out. Hopefully it fixes the problems. Overall, the patch looks good.

It didn't fix my issues unfortunately.

Just updated to 1.03 and my game still freezes, only for me it is right at the beginning of the campaign...the intoduction window of "candidate vs candidate" then it just freezes and is non-responsive.

I'm not seeing anythign you can do on yoru end.  I'm almost at the point of suggesting either a new video card or Stardock provide you with a refund as it's just not looking compatible with your machine.

Looks like you should increase your virtual memory, since you have so little RAM.

To increase the amount of Virtual Memory available to Windows:

1) Right click on the My Computer icon and chose properties
2) Click on the advanced tab
3) Under performance, click on the Settings button.
4) Click on the advanced tab
5) Click on the change button
6) Change the initial size to the recommended size and then increase the maximum size.

As a note, you should make sure that you have enough hard drive space left for the maximum virtual memory size or you'll start having problems whenever Windows has to allocate more virtual memory. You can get the size of the virtual memory in gigs by dividing the number by 1024.

Also, does it only happen with the campaign or with quickplay also?

All updates for our games can be obtained through Impulse

I do not see how to get this update. I bought the software in a store it won't even install. Say's I do not have enough ram. I have more than enough ram. I would like to try with this updated version but do not see how to get it from impulse site.

You don't get the game from the Impulse site, you get Impulse from the Impulse site.

As listed at the site I linked you to:
"Impulse is Stardock’s new state of the art digital distribution platform. Impulse allows users to quickly and easily find their favorite game or software and download it automatically to their PC as well as get the most out of their existing games and software."

So Impulse is an application that you download once, and then you use it to get updates to your games.

Say's I do not have enough ram. I have more than enough ram.

That's weird.  How much ram do you have?

CariElf-

Thanks, that's done the trick for now! It's still a bit slow but I need to stop being cheap and buy some more RAM.

He may be having the same problem that I and a lot of other people are having. The minimum RAM is 512, which is what I have. If you have an integrated graphics card, even if it is disabled, the amount of RAM is displayed as 504. Since the game won't even install without 512 (a big mistake in itself IMO--you're always better off leaving the consumer with the choice, not taking it away from him) anyone with the minimum RAM requirement and an integrated graphics card is unable to even install the game.
