Atari just established a new low on the gaming market over the Euro release of Alone In The Dark 5. Unsatisfied with reviews like 68/100 (4players.de) or 3/10 (gamereactor.no and affiliates) and other low scoring reviews immediately before the launch, Atari simply sued them for reviewing 'illegal copies' of the game.

Clearly, Atari knew the game was crap and didn't want any reviews spoil the sales of a new title - and Alone In The Dark would have had many sales based purely on the prestigious name.

I actually can't decide if that is worse than the Gamespot incident over Kane And Lynch...

The link provided is todays announcement that the legal action against 4players has been ended, not sure about the others.

This game has been getting mixed review, but unfortunately most of them are bad. :NOTSURE:  IGN:3.5 1UP:B-

Thats what happens when Revenue & Bonus motivations overtake common sense.

Its sad to see Atari go down the sink hole over the years. There was a time back in the prehistoric days - at a time when men were real men and didnt use nambypambi graphical UI's *struggles into flak jacket* - when they were top or near the top of the industry.

And those are the English versions. The localisation has to be one of the worst ever, beginning from translation up to the speakers. The 4players review said (paraphrased) 'The dialogue is something that not even Uwe Boll would accept.'
