What do VP's actually do?

I read through the manual and found nothing. What effects  does a VP have? Does matter who you pick?

Not really, but they give you a nice boost in awareness in the state they are in, as well as surrounding states. I don't know if their stats make a difference for the VP. It would be nice of the VP could fundraiser, etc.

To be more specific, it's a 3% awareness boost in the state that they are in, and a 1.5% awareness boost in the surrounding states. Once the state reaches 100% awareness...make sure you move your VP!!

Thats useful on harder difficultys, but I think expanding the VP's options could help.
