Game Seems Choppy

Game Seems Choppy

Hello,

I submitted a support issue to StarDock last night.. and havent heard back yet.. so i figured let me post here and see what others have encountered.

I am at work now, so I dont have access to my home PC (where the machine is installed) to provide a 100% accurate report..... but i would be VERY surprised if my machine wasnt strong enough to meet the RECOMMENDED requirements.. as I am a professional Graphic Designer who runs Photoshop and other 3D rendering software applications with no problems.

I have Windows XP and a Nvidea GEForce (I believe 6200) graphics card with DirectX 9.0c, 2GB of RAM and a Processor that I believe is a little faster than 2 Ghz.... My monitor is a HP 22 inch widescreen with a resolution of 1680 x 1050.

And yet.. when i tried to run PM2008 last night... both the opening sequence video and the game play run extremely slow and choppy. Ive tried changing the resolutions of the game as well as disabled FULL SCREEN mode... but it still runs very choppy. I even closed out all of my memory hog applications that I had running.. like Outlook.. and still CHOPPY.

Am i missing something? Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks,

Brian

Exactly...all we keep being told is to update drivers and turn things off, but I've already turned EVERYTHING off and updated the drivers. The issue HAS to be in relation to programming or the card...I can't see it any other way...

Indeed. Normally, on a Geforce FX 5200 it's related to anti-aliasing being on.  You're positive that that has been turned to 0 samples?

I can check again, but nothing really seems to happen when I change any options. I even quit the game and restart it, and the same slow-ness and choppiness comes back.

Alright, I ran the game again, still slowness. Everything is slow. Even when I press the 'Done' button on the options menu, it takes two seconds to register that it has been click, brighten up, and go to the next screen. This happens during gameplay as well. Here are the options I was running at:

1024x768 Resolution
Multisamples Off
Fullscreen Yes
Hardware Mouse - No
Draw Outlines - No
Map Glow - No

Hey Berndie,

We have a new build being tested internally which SEEMS to give some significant pep to cards with slowdown/choppiness problems.

We'll let you know when this is availble for you guys :)  Really can't wait to see if these fixes solve your problems!

Try updating your sound drivers.  Sometimes the Miles Sound System has trouble with old sound card drivers and bogs down the video.

You can also try increasing your sound card acceleration, or decreasing it, and seeing if that changes.  I can't give you a definative answer on which will work better because it depends on your sound card and their drivers.
