I spent a couple of years in Leonard Wood in the 80's. We really liked it there. I was an instructor at the truck driving school there so it was low key duty, no deployments or alerts or stuff like that. We had a horse we kept at the saddle club and were active with that bunch, helped out at the riding academy, the kids got the chance to do a lot of outdoorsy things, it was a pretty layed back time. After a couple of years in the 7th Infantry Division, where EVERYTHING is done at 100 mph, Leonard Wood felt like a vacation.

Of course, there were a lot of politically ignorant hill people there who would spout off about things like they knew what they were talking about, but you learn to ignore that kind of crap and just enjoy the beautiful Mark Twain National Forest and the peaceful surroundings. The only thing about MO that was disappointing was the weather. It could get pretty durn hot in summer and ice stormy in winter. Glad you got a chance to enjoy a nice day there. Shiny side up, dirty side down...see ya.

Been to Ft Leonard Wood many times delivering military trucks and equipment. Nice area.
