The democrats have been trying to pass a plan for a while now. As a matter of fact if you had been watching CSPAN over the past few weeks you would have seen the debates that ensued trying to get cloture and the debates that followed. The most recent plan was actually a tripartisan plan that was the result of trying to get a compromise from different bills that have been written over the past two years. The plan has nothing to do with nationalizing any sector of the energy industry as you imply. I personally don't agree with certain parts of their plan, but they do have one. In any case once again if you watched CSPAN instead of FOX you might realize that its the politicians from coal and oil states that oppose everything the dems try to do regarding energy.


In any case i find most of your responses to be quite comical...Maybe someday you will realize that you do more to hurt the image of the GOP than help it.

So I didn't read most of the comments because they were long, and well, boring.  So I'm not going to get in the argument.  I'll just say this.  I recently paid nearly 40 dollars for a ten gallon tank.  I want gas prices to go down.

 

I signed the petition.  Besides, what does it hurt?  And if it helps, fantastic.

The current gasoline price crisis will eventually solve itself due to the fundamental laws of economics. However, it's going to keep coming back and will probably bite harder each time. A lot of states don't want offshore drilling due to the negative impact on tourism and the fishing industry, etc. My understanding is that it would take years to see any benefit from this drilling anyway. It seems clear that the best course of action is to go full bore at developing alternative energy. This is only going to happen when governmental policies fully support and encourage the research that will be required. It will also require a willingness on the part of the American people to sacrifice (yes, I said it) for the greater good -- something we haven't been asked to do (as a whole) in a very, very long time.

I won't sign the petition, because I think it's simply asking our leaders to prolong the agony, and it does nothing to address the damage that's being done to our environment by burning fossil fuels. The time has come for right action and the time for quick and temporary fixes has long past. We need real leadership, political courage, and a paradigm shift where we stop doing what feels good in the short term, and start doing what's right for future generations and the planet. America has the wealth, brainpower, and ingenuity to lead on this issue -- I just hope we have the will.

I think most will get the picture this time. The high cost of gas has a lot to do with the financial markets this time and not totally supply/demand and the news related to the oil industry. So we have a few things coming together that are going to wallop the global economy and create A LOT OF ECONOMIC PAIN.

Which is fine by me, since I am not GOP. I have barely more respect for them than the democrats. But as you find them comical, then I guess you are at least reading them. Which is fine.

Still, CSPAN, or not, no plan is no plan. You can excuse them all you want, but the reality is they have had over 50 years to do something (with a space of 12 where they were not in control). They have done nothing. Except increase global warming with a bunch of hot air.

Here's a good vid that shows the politics of the issue for the last 20 years. The problem is the partisanship of politics. Say all you will but when you watch the segment that shows the CEO's of the major electric companies convene on DC to tell congress to do something you might realize what is reality.

And we are supposed to excuse them because they may hurt some feelings somewhere? Try that on your boss the next time you decide not to do your job. We did not elect them to be popular (although with the incessant drumbeat of Bush's popularity rating, it appears many think that is the reason). We elected them to do a job. And sometimes, that job is not being Mr. Popular. (or Ms. as the case may be).

The problem is they are playing Mr.Popular. They legislate your tax dollars away to those that will help elect them. That's why US politics are so partisan.
