Space Rangers 2 Upgrade fails to read 1captain.pkg

Greetings all. Just downloaded the new Space Rangers 2 :Reboot game and it seems to have a read error with my files, whether overwriting directories or not. Specifically, the executable fails to REad 1captain.pkg. However, through error checking it does seems to read common.pkg, Shipfull.pkg, etc on down  the list inside INSTALL.TXT. However, when it reaches 1captain.pkg, there is a read error and the program simply halts execution.

I originally bought this game from Direct2Drive, which it seems to have a different configuration of .pkg files than the CD version. Can you make a version of the EXE file that can read my file format of PKG file or do I need to return the product?

Edit the install.txt to the following:

That will tell the game that the 800*600 resolution pack is not installed, which will allow you to continue without the 1captain file.

Hey Netriak,

Thanks for getting back to me. I modified the INstall.TXT to that and now it receives the error on the 2captain.pkg file. I think that I will redownload the REboot version to see if the 2captain file is damaged.

The 2captain file is not part of reboot, but part of the original space rangers 2.
As such, it probably is an incompatibility between the Direct2Drive version of the original and the expansion, as you thought it might be.

Making a separate executable to solve such an incompatibility seems a needless amount of work, it would be far more sensible to allow you to download a compatible version of the package files.

But I cannot help you with that, so you'll need to wait until you hear from Stardock.

Reinstall SR2 and make sure to install both the 800x600 and 1024x768 UIs. Then, copy the contents of the Reboot expansion into your SR2 folder, overwriting any files.

I have the same trouble; also purchased SR2 from D2D. I have seen the fix in several posts that says to make sure 800x600 and 1024x768 UIs are installed; how does one do that? When I begin SR2 (w/o REboot installed), I am capable of playing at both resolutions; does that mean both UIs are installed? This is the only proposed remedy I haven't tried; any help on how to do would be appreciated.....
