If you run impulse, it will update itself to the latest version. 

You can then use Impulse to see if there are any updates for Political Machine 2008, or any of your other Stardock-related games and products.

The .pdf didn't mention how to let ports through the firewall, so if you need directions on that, here they are (monk, you can put these in your pdf if you'd like):

To open the ports for multiplayer, you need to go to Control Panel->Windows Firewall. Then,

IF YOU HAVE VISTA:
There will then be a link to "allow a program through the firewall". If you click the link, then you can either add a program, or add a port.

IF YOU HAVE XP:
Go to the "exceptions" tab.

In either case, you'll want to add ports, so click the "Add Port" button. Add UDP port 6000 and then UDP port 6112. When you add a port it'll ask you to name it, but it doesn't matter what you name them. I went with PM2008 Multiplayer 1 and PM2008 Multiplayer 2 for my port names.

Do you know if your cable/dsl might also be functioning as a router? You might have allowed the ports through your software firewall(s) to your PC, and allowed/forwarded the traffic past/through your router, but if your cabled/dsl modem is also performing NAT then the traffic isn't even getting to your router in the first place.

Yes you need to perform the "port-forwarding" as described in my guide. Your dsl modem/router is stopping the traffic for the two ports required, it needs to "forward" said traffic to your PC.

Go through my guide step-by-step and you shouldn't have any further problems. If you can't seem to follow the steps, contact me via xfire (the1monk) and I'll talk you through the steps.

plus my ip address doesnt start 192.168.xxx but is 207.xxxxx(other numbers). what does that mean? It seems completely random

Some firmware on some routers will have issues with forwarding what it sees as the same ports (eventhough they will be different protocols) to the same PC on two seperate lines.

Having said that, you shouldn't have to forward anything on your router in order to LAN-play with your wife.

Did you both check the "LAN" check-mark in the upper-right of the "multiplayer lobby"?

Then in the "Sever/Host" line put the local IP address of your wife's (the host) computer. ie. 192.168.xxx.xxx

That should do it, if you're still having issues I'll get ya on my TS again and we'll figure it out!
