Impulse error - can't log in!

I'm just trying to install and check out Impulse in preparation for Galciv 1.95 - and I can't even log in. Impulse is telling me it can't connect to the server, and Impulse Dock crashes on loading. The relevant sections of the errorlogs are..:

Do you have the BITS service enabled?
Do you have the .net framework installed?
Do you have a firewall that might be blocking access?

Disabled BITS is the most likely culprit here, I believe.

I have just enabled BITS, I have MS .net framework 2.0 service pack 1 installed, and I've tried turning off as much as Norton as it'll let me (@*$# hand-holding program.. who doesn't provide options such as 'turn this program off!').

Same error messages. Even adsubtract is disabled.

Basically, Norton is your problem. :P

(I've never seen a 'security suite' so thoroughly wreck a computer as Norton.)

Ahh.. yes. 2000 Professional.

By the way; I've been reminded today of how much Norton irks me. Anybody suggest a good antivirus/connection monitor alternative?
