So how is the tax cut unfair? How is it "favoring" anyone? It merely takes less than was taken before. It "gave" nothing to anyone. YOu have admitted that since I pay more in taxes, then if I still pay more, the unfairness is that I pay so much more. It seems taht the tax cut did not favor the rich, only favored those who paid taxes. And by definition, a tax cut is only going to favor those who pay taxes. Not all people (those who do not pay taxes cannot get a tax cut).


It is unfair when the rich, such as Warren Buffett, are taxed at 17.7 percent and the poor and middle class are taxed at 30 percent.

For all of our intents and purposes, history IS only 70 years old, because the majority of the electorate are less than 80 years old. I believe you would be hard pressed to find anyone who votes based upon pre-WWI history:)

No, you are taxed on earned income, capital gains, but not wealth. Is it fair that Paris Hilton pays nothing in taxes? (all her money is inherited).

But I do question Buffet's hysterics. Not his tax rate as virtually all his money comes from Capital gains (15% - remember that the next time your retirement plan is drained because of "fair"), but his secretary's rate. Do you know how much she would have to earn to get that rate? about 250k.

And that is a very well paid secretary (that does not know how to manage money apparently).

In the end, however, you could not answer the question about the tax code itself and how it was unfair. Every challenge posed, you said "yea that was ok". And the reason I dont pay 30% (other than the fact I dont earn $250k) is that I do have deductions as well - nothing fancy, charity, children and mortgage. And my effective tax rate federal taxes divided by total income) is about 20% - my marginal rate is over 40%.

Because many of us are smart enough to understand that the culture of dependence is a trap that's almost impossible to extricate oneself from.
 

This is not true.  There are many people that can get off of being dependent of others.  What matters is role models around them and how they are encouraged.  If they are simply handed stuff with no end in sight then they will stay dependent, however if there is a goal, end or role model to help them they will get off of being dependent.  Case in point, my family.  I have an aunt who has 3 children and is has been divorced since the children were very young(they are in there upper 20's and 30's now). My aunt and her 3 children always got help from my grandfather they did need it but he went overboard(not a good role model).  My aunt and here youngest child stayed dependent as they had no end in sight and no role models(my grandfather didnt show them the right way.  The other 2 children were closer to their father.  Their father was more responsible and independent. He taught them the right way.  They both went on to be much more responsible and support themselves very well now, one of them being upper middle class, and the other one pretty close.  They now are teaching their children this. 

So government can step in and help but it needs to make sense and have an end in sight.

Given that the American government will still protect them from terrorists even if they receive no welfare money, I'd support such a timeline.

True, they want southern comfort and beer included in food stamps.
