Ship designs horribly mangled in TA and save issue

I appologize in advance if this stuff has been covered elsewhere.  If so, please point me in the right direction.

Here's my problem.  My ship designs from DA got mangled moving them to TA.  Some of them were easy to fix, a missing piece here or there, or a piece twisted the wrong way for no apparent reason.  Some were caused by parts changing in size or shape between DA and TA.  One I can't explain very well, it just looks like it went through a transporter accident.  It's a ball of random stuff, and doesn't even resemble the original.  And one, my huge battleship, was stripped of ALL parts.  It's just the basic hull, as if I'd never designed anything.

So okay, I went through and fixed em.  I'm in the process of totally reconstructing that battleship I mentioned.  I go in and make some changes, then save it as test[shipname][number].  I just put the finishing touches on it and saved it one last time.  But when I look in the ship list to find it, it's not there.  User error?  I saw the screen where it asked me to save it, I incremented the number by one (actually I wiped the text field and retyped it) and then hit okay.  It didn't say "do you want to overwrite that design?" as if I hadn't incremented the number, and it didn't say "are you sure? all changes will be lost" as if I'd tried to leave without saving.  One final test I performed was to go back and try saving a ship as the exact same name.  It saved without asking me to overwrite.

So to recap: ships are mangled, some very mysteriously, and I saved a ship and it didn't actually get saved at all.  This is EXTREMELY frustrating.  My ships are very intricate and involved, and it drives me nuts to have to create them over and over again.  Can anyone help me out here?  What's the deal?  FYI, I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

While I'm on the subject: why do I have to save the game to have my new ship designs persist?  Why when I save a ship am I kicked out of the ship design area back to ship selection?  Have the bugs with deleting ship designs and overwriting templates been fixed?  I've been doing that manually at the file level.

:(

One more gripe: what's up with ship hulls not being bilaterally symmetrical?

Many of the hulls and jewelry pieces were updated in TA, not only with better textures, but with repositioned and fixed hardpoints so that they're more symmetrical, etc. As such copying designs straight from DA that use any of the updated parts is going to result in weirdness (it only worked in the TA beta because the new parts weren't in yet).

As to things not saving, do you have the save designs to disk option on in the settings?

Or you can do what i did, and identify the offending parts. Then, rename their new TA counterparts and make new GC2types entries for them, and save the new TA versions as new components. Then restore the old DA versions. Then you have the old parts and the new parts. :)

But i will say this, some ship designs are just simply beyond repair, chuck it up to an accident in wormhole traversal?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, kryo, I have that option set. And in fact, I see the ship now . . . I reset the text field and typed Test with a capital T instead of lowercase. That caused it to appear in a different location than the rest of the test ships in the ship list. Apparently it alphabetizes capitals differently. I'd wondered why the test ships all appeared at the bottom of the list, now I know why.

I love the idea of getting the old DA parts back, so I'm totally doing that. Thanks!

Just to be picky, though, I'd point out that hull pieces changing names, shapes, and sizes is still not an explanation for why a ship would appear with the parts misoriented or missing on one side of the ship but not the other, and it doesn't explain why one ship would end up stripped of parts entirely. Just saying!

Thanks again though.
