Still on Schedule?

June 17th release?

Was just wondering if this game is still on schedule to be released June 17th. I have it preordered but I'm wondering when exactly I'll get to play it? June 17th at midnight? or when?

For some reason I thought it was to be released June 16th.

*Sigh* I guess I can wait another day...

But seriously, pre-orders should be able to download it just a little bit early... :(

im crossing my fingers its at midnight, I preordered as well and was disapointed that there wasnt any real indication on when it would take place, hopefully we will get an automated email at midnight so we can get started, it seems like this game is going to get such a quiet release that if there are any hiccups they may not be in the biggest hurry to fix things, say the servers crash in age of conan or world of warcraft, if the ship sinks on this thing on launch day its my concern that there wont be enough people that even care to post to get things moveing towards getting resolved, but all of these fears or presumptive and more than likely not going to happen, im just speaking from past issues with digital download it seems like more often than not things just dont work out right.

While I would stay up until midnight (and most likely play TPM2008 way past the time I should've gone to bed  ;) ) if someone said it'll be officially available at such time, I'm personally going to sleep at my usual time tonight and won't be expecting anything until I get home from work tomorrow at the earliest.

I haven't been charged yet for the pre-order (which went in April 6th), which is why I've never complained that we never got to play with a beta. But it also doesn't bode well for release times as usually you see at least the reservation of funds about 24 hours before stuff is avaiable. Then again, Stardock has had a history of charging my card a few days as I've bought, downloaded, and played the heck out of something that was available, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Given all the time and energy that was put into finishing and polishing the game (which is why no public beta was available), I'm assuming it'll be available this week. It would be nice if those who pre-ordered through Stardock itself might get a little advanced play in, but I'm not holding my breath. Stardock's a great company, but TPM2008 has been a bit of a slip up compared to their usual standards of communication and their usual above-and-beyond customer involvement.

I don't think we've *ever* done a midnight release, and I wouldn't expect that to change now.

Kyro, thanks for the update and allowing me a good night's sleep (although I'm on call this week, so it might not help  :p ).

Hopefully it'll be available for download before everyone can come from a store with a boxed copy (@ Wed or Thurs). I've been burned a few times of late with pre-orders or buying direct (which is especially annoying for the few that charge ahead of time) where it would've been quicker, easier, and in some cases cheaper to just walk into a Best Buy and pick it up. It's not about 'being first' or anything like that... just the feeling that your show of enthusiasm just results in a kick in the teeth for the effort. Highly doubt Stardock will do that, but unforeseen technical difficulties might always arise...

I must say this is an extremely quiet release. No advertising anywhere, no mention on the front page about what is going on, and the only information about what/when is in a forum thread.

I concur. Extremely quiet.

But that's how it's been the past few months. Big announcement about it coming soon and to pre-order. Then silence. Some screenshots. Then silence. Some mention that some site or magazine previews it. Then silence. Someone asks about the beta. Then silence. Eventually its announced there will be no official beta except for a few random folk. Then silence. Now impending release... and silence. Those involved with TPM2008 have had their nose to the grindstone, so some of that is expected (and will certainly be appreciated in the final product), but you'd think there would be some bit of better self promotion. Granted, this is something of a low budget, almost casual-category game, but Stardock's almost treated it like it's one of those hopeless dark horse candidates that run for their party early on with good intentions, but never makes it past the first hoop and remain completely in obscurity.

I see Gamestop has pushed its shipping date to the 20th (was the 16th). Whether that's a sign of uncertain release dates or just a sign that Gamestop considers it one of those 'non-marquee' titles that it'll ship whenever and won't be rushing out of its warehouse with any expediency remains to be seen.

Midnight releases don't work on the internet, as everyone is in a different time zone.

So, any word on when this is being let out of the gate? I noticed they put a buy now link on the main page, so I did, but it's still treating it like a preorder. The charge hit my account immediately, so I assume we're getting close?

I totally agree with you, Timothy. I went to both Wal-Mart and Best Buy, but there was no information as to when TPM2008 would be released.

So just curious, does everyone that's preordered already have their serials? I have my order number and purchase time, but that's all I was given.

I didn't get a serial when I preordered. Secondly, I haven't heard anything about the game going gold yet, so I'm not sure it will be released today. It would be really good just to get a "It will be out by the end of the day from Stardock". That way at least we will know. I hope this isn't like the beta when they waited till after the day to mention that it was delayed (I mean whats the point we kind of guessed it was delayed after it didn't happen).

fingers crossed. according to IGN it went gold http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/879/879874p1.html
so it will probably be out in a few hours.

Not that it means anything here but EB is saying it's coming out on the 20th now, did the date change?

Does anyone know if their office is on Eastern Time? The website appears to be but that may be unrelated. If they are on eastern time we can hpoe that they intend to release it before end of buisness today, about 5 hours from now.

I don't think we need to worry about the release date, as Brad said in an article on Impulse on the 14th (3 days ago) that "Phase 1: The initial launch [of Impulse] on June 17th to coincide with the release of The Political Machine 2008" (https://forums.galciv2.com/314940).

Still, I am surprised at the quietude of thepoliticalmachine.com leading up to release.

Just saw this from the comment thread on the aforementioned article: https://forums.galciv2.com/314940/page/2/#1769551

So Impulse is being released somewhere around 2pm EST, and I imagine we'll see TPM2008 in the same timeframe.

I think that the first Galactic Civilizations might have been released at midnight, but that's the only one. It's better to do it during the day so that if there are problems with the servers, people are awake to deal with it. The game should be available very soon. :)
