If Bin Laden is killed or captured, would it change...

In the last day or so there has been a Drudge headline that President Bush has ordered "get Bin Laden before I leave office" (or the equivalent there of...)  That idea/statement begs the question of whether or not the capture or confirmed killing of Bin Laden would make any difference in how you might vote, or if you think it might make any real impact on the general election in the fall.

So what say you?  Would capturing Bin Laden (or killing him...) lead you to vote for McCain (the presumptive Republican nominee) or would you just shrug off the news and vote for the Democrat (presumed to be Obama) regardless of that news?[more]

He's not doing it to further any one else's election chances, Terp, and you know it.

He's doing it in an effort to save face, to try and create a 'legacy' as president that's not a total cock-up.

Won't work, but I guess you can't fault him for trying.

And NO, it won't (and shouldn't) make a lick of difference in how I (or anyone else for that matter) votes in November.

How would Bush's capture of Bin Laden (only seven years late, after all) make any difference whatsoever? I fail to see the connection. Certainly wouldn't make me vote for McCain.

If you are talking JU pundits, the answer is a mmost probably NO, it would not change any votes. If you are talking the population at large? I think it would change some, but not enough to be a difference in the end.

tee hee!! whenever Bush brings up Bin Laden I start to chortle... although he is the man who is directly responsible for masterminding and controlling the organization that's responsible for 9/11, Bush decides to...... go after Saddam instead! Bush SHOULD have thrown everything and the kitchen sink into getting Bin Laden, but instead he puts on a little side show in Afghanistan, then six years later says "oh shucks, kinda forgot about that guy.... let's try and git 'im now!!"

Whenever someone uses the word 'chortle' (and I'm a as guilty a culprit as anyone), Lewis Carroll sheds a tear of joy in heaven. ;)

I think if they say ok lets get' em and they do, it would be the the black cherry on the blood cake of this administration.

That would mean at best that they left him alone all this time to keep the propaganda alive or at worst hoping he would attempt and maybe succeed in another attack to really keep us fearfully signing black checks and begging them to take away our freedoms. What a lazy disappointment Bin laden turned out to be.

Then at the end of his administration when Bin laden's usefulness as a political tool outweighed his usefulness as a propaganda tool do they finally get that mass murderer. Whatever, just kill that SOB.

Capturing bin Laden would DEFINITELY change my vote...

...IF.... It's John McCain who catches him on video, gives him a good right punch, knocks him to the ground, rips off his beard, reveals Osama to be Barak Obama in disguise ("And I would've gotten away with it to, had it not been for you meddling old patriots!")....

...AND ONLY IF.... all this happens in space... on the moon, in front of a lunar lander (with a flag nearby, of course)....    (I don't believe the moon landings were fake, but it would so cinch the scene)

Seriously, though, despite my uncertain opinion of the average voter, I don't think it would have much of a difference to the masses (unless, of course, one of the candidates is the one who actually captures him, as per my attempt at humor above). It might if this election was for Bush's second term, but I don't believe would carry over to any of the presumed candidates. And, as others have stated, it would raise a number of questions in regards to 'why now?', 'why did it take so long', 'Osama who-again?', etc. It could bring closure and provide a positive outcome on at least one of Bush's endeavors and provide for some legacy that wasn't as damning as many feel he'll leave the office with, but little else.

Capturing or killing bin Laden, despite fulfilling one of the goals of this 'war on terror', won't even help on that front unless one finds a means to sincerely and completely destroy his image before doing so. Otherwise you wind up just adding fuel to the fire.

Oh I have no doubt there will be a headline a day or two before the election where there are "reports" that Bin laden is dead.  It will be widely reported as fact on the faux news network and they will "forget" about it when its proven to be a lie.

Considering the topic and your response, it would appear that the truth does indeed hurt, and apparently the loony left cannot handle it.

I read this response and thought I had heard this before. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi said much the same thing just before the last general election. Senator Harry Reid also said this. It was their talking point for the midterm elections as well. They were told to shut up because talk like that is dangerous and they did. Hint, hint, subtle hint. On the other hand you need to stop projecting things that the left would do onto the right. just because you and some in your party are devious, lying, underhanded, win at all costs, racist, people full of hate does not mean that everyone else is.
