Can i ask for some specific PC game advice?

Hunting for specific kind of game

Hi

I would love to hear of any games that have some specific charrachteristics that would allow me to play it with my wife at home (on 2 computers with 1 game disk).
 
The games that my wife loved playing with me so far is Dungeonsiege 2 and Lionheart. Are there any other games around with similar characteristics?
 
There are two basic requirements that makes finding such games very difficult -
 
1) The game must allow team campaign. Obviously if i am looking for games to play with my wife then this is essential. 
 
2) The ability to LAN play on two computers from 1 game disk. I simply refuse to bend over and get f----d up the ass by the greedy game companies having to buy a game twice just to play it in my own home with my wife!
 
Typically i find most of the newer games being released are the ones that are too stingy to allow LAN multiplay from 1 game disk. So i am mainly interested in older games which do not seem to suffer this rediculous curse as much.
 
Any assistance greatly appreciated?

I play games with my girlfriend myself.

It sounds like she likes hack and slash games: Diablo 2, Sacred, and Titan Quest all fit that bill. There's also an interesting, free massively multiplayer hack and slash game called Mythos too.

You would probably like Neverwinter Nights I and II.

Since people are pimping Quake, I can't help but say--the original Unreal Tournament (1999), baby!, the greatest FPS of all time.

NWN 1 is a great game to play with a buddy/friend/wife.

Unfortunately, you each need a separate copy to play.

On the up side, you can get it cheap: 20 bucks for NWN and the two expansions (SoU and HotU), as well as 3 Premium Modules. To top it off, there are literally thousands of free fan-made modules to play, many of them of very good quality and a choice few that are better (IMO) than the stock campaigns. And there's also on-line multiplayer. Well worth the 40 dollar investment for the two of you.

Okay. Good point. If I had to pick a favorite FPS ever, it would be that.

First I'd like to say that it is great that your wife plays games and even better that she wants to play with you.

If you don't want to spend a lot you can both play free MMO like such as Archlord which is of great quality compare to Neverwinter Nights 1 (although you got less options to customize your player)

Other games that are fun to play together are adventure games in the spirit of broken swords.

Otherwise Diablo 2, NWN 1 & 2 and the expansions of DungeonSiege 2

Thanks guys,

As it happens, i have Quake1 which i love and Unreal tournament. Unfortunately those kind of games irritate my wifes eyes so she will not play them.

I badly wanted Neverwinter nights but theres no way i can support any game that forbids me to play it with my wife with just 1 copy. And regardless of 'cracks' or anything else, I cannot allow such behaviour by game companies to be rewarded in any way shape or form.

So many people claim to support IT freedoms but then allow themselves to be tempted away from that path, and allow things with this kind of unfair controll to slip buy them because the game looks soooo good. If everyone point blank refused to buy any game at all with that element then of course you would never see it.

With so many freedoms being slowly eroded away in all aspects of life in these troubled times i have no choice but to hold fast to whatever vague principle i possibly can no matter how hopeless it may seem, Thats where i am comming from.

Mystik, I applaud your stance. I'm a little more tolerant, but I drew my line in the sand with the DRM they introduced with BioShock. Since Mass Effect came out with a similar scheme, I'm taking a pass on it (and I've made my opinion clear to BioWare) You have to draw the line somewhere. All I can say is it's a shame you'll miss out on NWN, as it's a great game and the sheer volume of community made modules available for it, as well as on-line servers, would keep you and your wife going for literally years.

What is a 'DRM'?

Anyhow, perhaps NWN will one day be released in the console games? Even if every PC game in existance will ban 2 people playing from 1 game disk, at least i know i can always fall back on consoles as a last resort. The basic design of a console means that i am basically guarranteed to be able to play any 1 game with my wife and not have to buy it twice! 'Sucked in' PC game companies!!
