Gas Prices vs. Gas Taxes

or why the hell does my receipts not tell me how much tax i'm paying for when i fill up?

Hello one and all!!!  I was listening the Herman Cain show this evening in Atlanta and found myself not getting angry listening to the man like i do whenever that idiot Neal Boortz or Hannity is on the air spouting out bs.  It then dawned on me that the reason is b/c Herman Cain is actually nice to people and isn't classified as sensational journalism.  He says something, then gives facts to back them up, and listens to callers and gives them a fair chance to respond.  You actually learn something.  Now i'm not a republican by any means and don't agree with everything he has to say, but my political dichotomy leans me not to disagree with everything either.  For example, the immigration debate/bill is bs.  Why should people who broke the law by coming here illegally be given a free pass now that they are here?  I would boost the economy by creating jobs in the INS/Border Patrol to deport them all.  It isn't their fault, now people have to eat, it's the govt.'s for not enforcing the law.  But you have to stop the bleeding before you start the surgery.  To stop illegals from coming here there has to be a reason for them to stop coming.

Here is the solution for the War in Iraq/OBL/and illegal immigration,  want to hear it???  Too bad, here it is:  Remove the National Guard from Iraq (they shouldn't be there anyway) and have them patrol the Southern Border.  When anyone tries to jump the border, start shooting, as this will have the effect, "Hey, i might get shot, i'm not crossing!"  Hire INS Agents to systematically round up half of the illegal aliens that are here and have them build the border fence, then throw them over when they are done.  Then send the Army from Iraq (again, they shouldn't be there anyway) to Afghanistan where they belong.  This tells the Iraqis that they are big boys now, they have to learn to wipe their own bottoms now and police and run their own country without Uncle Sam to do it for them.  Thirdly, I would send the other half of the illegal aliens that are here and send THEM to Afghanistan to sneak across the border into Pakistan (since they are so good at it) to hunt down and find OBL!  This would start their legal path to citizenship since they did a favor for us.

As for gas prices. As I mentioned above I was listening to the Herman Cain show.  A caller brought up a very valid point.  Why is it when you buy a coke your receipt says, "Coke: $1.00, tax .07 cents" but when you buy gas your receipt says, "Gas: $4.oo/gallon" and no tax?  I actually discovered that gas is somewhere around $3.50/gal but the federal and state gas tax (which is diff for every state) pushes it up to 4bucks.  There should be legislation passed stating that taxes should be listed on the reciepts, gas station signs, pumps, etc...  Any takers for this?

And the name Clintonbabe refers to my fondness of the Greatest American President: Billy, not Hilly.

In my state i believe it is listed on the pump. I suspect there is a law requiring this labeling but im not sure whether it is my state's law or a fed thing.

I was wondering about your handle. ;)

And as Smoothseas states, in some states it is posted. But where not required, most companies dont do it as it is just another cost to keep up with. I think if more gas stations did, there would be a larger outcry against the government and its taxes and not the oil companies and their piddly profits.

That wouldn't be a bad idea except most people would probably not understand the taxes anyways. Some will think "why am I paying so much in taxes? I thought it was suppose to be 6.5 %?", since some may think sales tax is the same. It could also make it more complicated for people to decide what station to use due to all these numbers. But then it could raise concerns that might actually make people question all these taxes.

BTW, had not seen you post in a while. I remember you explaining you love for Slick Willy and not having anything to do with Monica a while back. I guess everyone has the right to chose to make mistakes on who they like. :D

Hey, nice to see you again! but you have started some friendly banter you cannot win. And i want you to know that i'm not saying this with any animosity. But, I made a mistake with who I like? I suppose you still support Bush? Now that's a mistake. B/c of his policies (or lack therof):
1. He has the lowest approval rating of any President in history.
2. We're spending billions rebuilding a place that isn't even ours b/c of a war that never should have been allowed to take place searching for something that wasn't even there when New Orleans is still in ruins.
WHere are the WMD's by the way? (You don't here THAT blurted out on the "Liberal Media" ((which happens to be dominated in the South btw by right wing idiots like Neil Boortz and Sean Hannity who sound more like fascists)))
3. He wants to bend or break the Constitution with human rights abuses in places like Abu Graib and Gitmo (and don't give me the cop out: what the military does he has no knowledge of...he's the CIC, he sets the standard for crying out loud!)
4. and it sounds like you voted for him. While he was gov of Texas "Houston overtook LA as America's smoggiets city, ranked 1st in toxic releases to the environment, 1st in total toxic air emissions from industrizl facilities, 1st in toxic chemical accidnets, and 1st in cancer-causing pollution, 15 of the nation's 30 highest smog readings were all taken in Texas, and every major urban area either failed to meet the EPA's minimum air quality standards, or was on the verge of failing" (EPA Toxics Release Inventory Database; Crimes Against Nature by RFK, Jr).

Al Gore won an Oscar and the Nobel Price for his pro-environment attitude and I voted for him. Sounds like you made the mistake :-)

Arafat won a peace price too - for killing thousands. Great company for a man who won an oscar for a film devoid of facts (according to UK Courts).
